My 606 always runs on 5 when cold, the DV's were weeping quite badly so I replaced the 6.no O-rings and copper washers and the fuel leakage has stopped but the lumpy idle remains..

When thoroughly warmed up it idles perfectly, and even when cold holding the revs just above idle it runs perfectly..

It has been suggested this could actually be a worn / faulty DV causing the issue, so I'm thinking crack each injector in turn and identify the faulty cylinder/injection line, but it won't identify potentially a worn injector (is this possible?).

Assuming it's a worn DV can I just buy a single DV from say Dieselmekken?

Interestingly it does run smoother and (feels) more powerful now the seals are replaced..

Anyone with a similar experience?

Beers, H.

Why dont you think its a glow plug? If you are convinced its a DV swap it with another cylinder and see if the misfire moves.

87 300SDL OM606 swapped HE351VE 722.633 swapped, Crower cams, KM valvesprings
76 300TD custom lots of stuff

sometimes tight too much the DV holder , causes the plunguer barrel missalignment , result is about the rack recovery , causing erratic idle.
it is a guess, many things can be causing that misfire. cylinder 6 correct?

Because after even 5-10 minutes of driving (fully warmed up) it still idles on 5, after 10-15 minutes of driving it will then idle normally.

Far too long for the chambers to not be heated?

Yes that is too long. I had bad glowplug on cylinder 2 and even in winter at -15°C it started to run on all 6 after minute or two.

Delivery valves and springs are still available from Mercedes dealer, so would not bother with dieselmeken. ca. 45€/piece.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ex: 525tds 130kW, C250TD 160kW, E320CDI 200kW, ML400CDI 230kW, A6 R5TDI 130kW
Now: Q7 V8TDI 240kW, 320d 150kW, 335d 210kW

It could be simply working the air out of that cylinder's dv system. My 602 does the same thing, it coughs and misses and smokes until it works the air out of the system. Even on a hot crank after it has been run, it will do it again until all the air is bled out the return system.
It smooths out after a few minutes of running

I would start with cracking each injector line on the cold running engine to see, if its one cylinder that is not firing or an injection problem
