I'm looking for a 95C* oil thermostat for the filter housing, new, used don't really care as long as it works. I've searched hi and low and cannot find one. If I can't find one here (on this must excellent forum) what did they come in so that I can scrounge the yards?

I dont think it's a good idea, the oil temp must reguraly exceed 100*C so that moisture can boil out.

Water will evaporate at 95*C. It just takes a little bit longer but there shouldn't be much water in the oil. 
Also oil will pass the turbo and head where temperatures exceed 100*C

Thats is correct. Regardless of sump tempreture the oil exiting the crank is in the 230-250* range. Mercedes increased the oil temp to decrease warm up time and reduce pumping loses due to oil viscosity. Modern synthetic oils do a great job of reaching proper viscosity quickly and without such high heat. Anybody have one of these lying around?
