Just pulled my 722.633
Just pulled my 722.633
So I just pulled a 722.633 out of a 2001 S500. I have an OM606 on order and it should be here in a week. I am swapping these into my 87 300SDL. The question I have is how hard is the bell housing to swap? Do you just pull the converter out and unbolt it from there or do the internals have to come out? Im super excited to have a trans that can actual hold the power! 5 speed too!
Its not hard really just a bit involved. The trans case lifts off the gear set leaving the gears and clutch attached to the bell housing. ONce its disassembled just swap the stuff over.
Anything hard to line up or anything? or tips?
Its fairly easy. here are a few places to view the ATSG manual for the 722.6 http://www.all-trans.by/assets/site/files/722.6.pdf

Isn't that what you posted?
I've found some info on the 722.6 at sonnax.com. You can probably buy repair info there.
So for some dumb reason I though my 87 SDL transmission would work and my motor should be here tomorrow. If get a transmission out of a C230 will that work. Car-part lists it as a 722.600 and says it will work for a 97 E300D. Thoughts? Are the gas motor bellhousing swap with the dizzels because Car-part seems to think so.
I just picked up that C230 transmission. I was thinking about using the tq converter from it. It looks a little smaller and should help my HX40 spool a bit better. Anyone have any reason against that?
I did swap the internals and it was more stuff then I wanted to move over but not a problem at all. Just got the trans pulled out of the SDL now am pulling the motor.
