I have a 1985 MB 300D I am not sure but I think its a 617 from what I have read on this site but I am not sure. It is the original engine and is a auto. I was thinking of deleting the ALDA and have been seaching the forum but have not found a good thread describing removal. Does anyone know of one? I am planing on driving it on a 3500 mile road trip around the country and trying to get the best mpg.

The ALDA gives you good mpg by limiting fuel delivery. If you want more MPGs cheap adjust your valves, check your timing chain stretch, and time your IP properly. For around a week's downtime and ~$100 you can get your injectors balanced.

I understand removing ALDA will not improve mpg but I am also looking for power. Would I be correct in saying that I have a 617.

You have a 617 5 cylinder turbo diesel . Removing the ALDA won't really increase any power, maybe more off line the line response and soot clouds. If you want more power start reading the forum.

I'm not saying you can't have both power and mpg with no alda-but it requires you to keep an eye on your boost and egts, and learning the sweet spot on the pedal.

With a stock pump, you're limited to 12ish PSI. Any more air will just be wasted energy. Your pre-turbo EGTs should be under 1100*F

click cheap tricks in my sig for some general crap

Had my lift installed in my garage to day. Clean and lubed brakes also balanced tires and cut muffler off.
