Anyone changed over the original DNOSD310/314 type 4mm needle injector nozzles to the earlier 5mm types like DNOSD261/3/5 in the OM.605/6 engines?

A friend sent me some injectors to service. He had supplied a different series of pintle-nozzle to fit his C250 Turbo-Diesel.

The original nozzle had 4mm needles and the replacement old-stock French Bosch DNOSD329 had 5mm needles, so on fitting the pressures were completely wrong. As I have a full set of shims, this was taken care of--After reducing the diameter of standard shims to suit the 60x injectors which have a smaller diameter shim....

He's fitted them and finds a huge improvenent in torque at low to middle engine speed, its removed the soggy accelerator feeling that apparently these cars seem to have....

Apart from setting the timing and deleting the EGR he has done no other alterations apart from the Injectors....

My friend has just had the yearly MOT test done which includes an emissions Smoke-Test.

He's running a mix of 50/50 dino/BioDiesel fuel. His smoke 'K' was 0.5. The 'pass' mark for that engine is 3.0.

(04-24-2011, 06:24 PM)Alastair E Apart from setting the timing.....

If timing was also changed it is not possible to blame the nozzles for the torque increase. Too many changes at a time if you ask me.

Are you sure about those diameters?
The 261, 263, 265, 314 all have a 6mm pressure stage. Only the 310 has a 5mm pressure stage.

Hugh is alive and well - and has sent all his bits (pump, injectors, elements, dv's and 265 nozzles) to Pasi at PP-Diesel for 'adjustment'

How's things Alastair?
