Been driving the thing and went to cars and coffee irvine yesterday. It's funny how many people are so confused by my car lol.

The only problem I've had was my #4 glowplug wire fell off and shorted on the injection pump blowing the fuse in the controller. Other than that it's been great. I really love the new rear gears.

Had a motor mount go bad. Car vibrates like crazy. It seems I had a small fuel leak and it turned the driver side mount to mush. Gonna be a fun one to change.

New motor mount and primer pump and she's back to 100%. As a matter of fact I'm taking a road trip as we speak.

I love my w116. Average cruise speed is about 85: 3100rpm

Fixing the transmission is probably easier than replacing the stupid heater core in our '99 F150, which I've had to do twice Dodgy

-1982 300D Turbo, 280k miles, ALDA apparently maxxed, fram 8038, 12 lbs boost, non-egr manifolds, W/M injection, 4 brake light mod, Gen II w126 front rotors/calipers, 4-speed swap

Ok at this time i think it has broken rings.

I've narrowed it down to cyl 5 and I've changed the injector, precup, checked the valves. It sounds like it has plenty of compression (my tester won't clear the oil housing).

When I had the precup out I looked in and checked how high the piston comes up. It seems to be good. I'm going to get a jy motor and port the he's and do a minor build on it.

I also found out that the precups my engine has are larger than the spares I had laying around. I put a spare in and it didn't change how it ran it actually cause a fuel knock too. So I put mine back in. I also have 115 bar injectors. I swapped delivery valves and everything. Still misses and runs rough under ~2500 and out of boost. Once boost kicks in it runs perfect.


My precups are marked 617/03

You prob have a bad glow plug if it's after you start it. Mine was at 175° after driving home from work.

Poss. sticky injector. Test: listen to injector . Place listening aid( screw driver?) on top of injector or on metal fuel line,compare against noise from other injectors. Injectors can stick or bind when cold and be ok after warming a bit,and can also stick or bind at lower rpms. Good luck.

Well. I pulled the head off finally and found that the #5 cyl has a bent rod.
Notice the top of the cylinders where the rings don't touch on #5 is about 10mm lower than the rest. I put 5-600 miles on it like this lol.

We had some heavy rains and my alternator belt funnels water into my intake and it filled the bottom of my intercooler up while I was idling through a water crossing. When I went to take off it forced all that water into the engine and it didn't compress so well lol.

Update. Haven't had the time to mess with it. It's getting a new engine but it's not a Benz unfortunately. I got a 460/c6 combo for it. The local junkyards that used to have 3-4 good ones each had none last time I went looking. I traded my old Idi 7.3 for the 460 so that's what I'm going to cram in it.

80 300sd hy35, front mount intercooler, w115 intake, rack limiter removed, Alda removed, full load turned up, boost, ebp, trans, pyro, egr delete, 3.5" exhaust, e-fan, 16x8 rims with, 245/50 tires, lowered, bilstien 5100's, 12" front brakes, 2.65:1 diff.

70 f250 390
83 Volvo 242, lots of mods

Now this will be interesting. Whats the HP on that motor? is it about the same weight as the 617?

Why didn't you cram the IDI 7.3 in and turbo charge it? Big Grin Just had to say it, you knew it was coming

The 460 is being mildly built. 350hp/500tq is the goal.

oooo, a turbo IDI 7.3? I love those, simple to repair and plenty of power and noise!

Too bad it didn't fit, I recently saw one of those in a lincoln towncar, would be a beast of a motor jammed into the benz. Still, I guess a 460 V8 mildly built with 350hp will just have to do. *sigh* Big Grin

Glad you are keeping the car and repowering it. I loved PP forum member jgranziers 72 280se W108 with a chevy small block V8 and turbo 350 trans in it. It was bad ass, sounded great, a good combination of German comfort and American power and reliability. Im not impressed with the German gas V8s that were in some of these cars, just too complex and problematic. What are you going to do for a transmission?
