Just for kicks
Just for kicks
OK,
What happens if my Rod Bender breaks? Can I retrofit my '91 350SD with one of your guy's 300 - 400 horsepower diesel engines (I would have to buy the engine, etc).
I wouldn't even mind having a strong manual transmission.
I think that would be totally cool, the car is in new condition, seats look brand new, etc. (They had sheepskins on them their whole life).
I really like this car!
(Would be interesting to know my options)
The 3.0L OM603 from the '86/'87 300D, 300TD, and 300SDL is pretty much a simple swap.
An OM606 turbo ('98-up E300 Diesel and later W140 diesels) would be a more powerful start, but a bit more work.

No need for a rebuild in a good condition om606turbo. Just do pump and turbo and you will have big hp.

I bet trying to find a diesel in the '98-99 range would be tough, (I'd bet MB had low diesel production numbers for that time period). Seems like diesels in the US were always low in productions numbers.
But I'm going to keep my eye out! Wish I had more space to keep another car or so.
(04-05-2011, 10:17 PM)85-300Dt try 1998 e-class engine then pick the diesel (E300D turbo) engine option

The rodbender rarely "blows up", you will see an increase in oil use until it becomes severe enough to need repair/replacement. Sorry for this bad news, as I'm sure that the 606 swap would be a lot of fun, ...

Don't know if I would call an OM606 viscous unless it ws running way too much fuel and boost..
Visious would be a better description.

I'm also in Colorado as well there is a 350sd up at Anderson in Greeley for parts engine and such are already gone!
I've got an 1987 300sdl my self!
Your car looks like it is in a great original shape. Why not try to keep it like that? I am sure you will not regret that decision in 10 years time when it becomes a classic Better to try to find a beat up W123 or W124, modify it and put the 606 in it. Then you will have 2 great cars, one for Friday night racing, and one for the Sunday classic car show Very difficult to try to combine both
