OK,

What happens if my Rod Bender breaks? Can I retrofit my '91 350SD with one of your guy's 300 - 400 horsepower diesel engines (I would have to buy the engine, etc).

I wouldn't even mind having a strong manual transmission.

I think that would be totally cool, the car is in new condition, seats look brand new, etc. (They had sheepskins on them their whole life).

I really like this car!

(Would be interesting to know my options)

The 3.0L OM603 from the '86/'87 300D, 300TD, and 300SDL is pretty much a simple swap.

An OM606 turbo ('98-up E300 Diesel and later W140 diesels) would be a more powerful start, but a bit more work.

That OM606 Would be really cool! Wonder what one could be had for and then rebuilt, etc.

No need for a rebuild in a good condition om606turbo. Just do pump and turbo and you will have big hp.

RE: Just for kicks - playadude - 04-05-2011

Just wondering, is there a way to search for om606turbo's online? I know a buddy of mine who can search for wrecked cars online, that might be a start.

I want one! This is getting addictive! I bet my car would be really cool with a ton of horsepower. Wonder what it would cost.

RE: Just for kicks - aaa - 04-05-2011

Find a wrecked w210 (98-99). Probably would cost $2-3000. That's probably the going price on car-part too.

RE: Just for kicks - playadude - 04-05-2011

I bet trying to find a diesel in the '98-99 range would be tough, (I'd bet MB had low diesel production numbers for that time period). Seems like diesels in the US were always low in productions numbers.

But I'm going to keep my eye out! Wish I had more space to keep another car or so.

~ 30 at carpart

30 engines at carparts.com? I searched and found none, I think they call the car 300E right? Zero search results.

RE: Just for kicks - 85-300Dt - 04-05-2011

try 1998 e-class engine then pick the diesel (E300D turbo) engine option

Hey! That's really cool, I found 30 engines for sale. I guess if my rod bender blows up, I'm getting this engine.

(Thanks guys! I really appreciate all of your knowledge, I feel privileged to learn from you.)

RE: Just for kicks - babymog - 04-06-2011

The rodbender rarely "blows up", you will see an increase in oil use until it becomes severe enough to need repair/replacement. Sorry for this bad news, as I'm sure that the 606 swap would be a lot of fun, ...

Thanks Babymog, I guess that is good news and bad news, frankly, my motor runs really well. Perhaps that factory rebuild in 2001 did the trick.

Wow, I really love these cars, they are a lot of fun.

RE: Just for kicks - playadude - 04-06-2011

Would an OM606 Turbo tear up a W126? Seems like a pretty viscous motor. (the one in this video is highly modified)

RE: Just for kicks - Spaceraver - 04-08-2011

Don't know if I would call an OM606 viscous unless it ws running way too much fuel and boost..
Visious would be a better description. Big Grin

Funny! Thanks for the correction,

BTW: It's so cool that this forum has guys from Denmark, Finland, Norway, etc. I love it.

RE: Just for kicks - babymog - 04-08-2011

Vicious perhaps?

RE: Just for kicks - willbhere4u - 04-08-2011

I'm also in Colorado as well there is a 350sd up at Anderson in Greeley for parts engine and such are already gone!

I've got an 1987 300sdl my self!

RE: Just for kicks - erling66 - 04-10-2011

Your car looks like it is in a great original shape. Why not try to keep it like that? I am sure you will not regret that decision in 10 years time when it becomes a classic Smile Better to try to find a beat up W123 or W124, modify it and put the 606 in it. Then you will have 2 great cars, one for Friday night racing, and one for the Sunday classic car show Smile Very difficult to try to combine both

Ask the guy, I am sure he will sell it to you if you are loaded with dollars(or Euro) Smile
