need some help - yota4life - 02-19-2014

Im doing an om617 swap in my yota and the crank pulley is resting up against my radiator. I cant push the motor back anymore and I cant push the radiator anymore forward. Im only using one belt since I dont have PS or AC. I saw another guy on another forum cut the front section of that pulley off. Would this be a problem if I did that?

RE: need some help - Simpler=Better - 02-20-2014

You should be okay, just make sure the pulley isn't a weird pressed assembly. An electric fan (eb*y or junkyard) is your friend

RE: need some help - yota4life - 02-20-2014

Thanks ill get that done today then. Cause thatll give me just enough clearance that I feel comfortable with. I was looking on ebay couldnt decide on 2 10" fans or one 16"

RE: need some help - Simpler=Better - 02-20-2014

I have a 16" fan on my DD, it does the job well

RE: need some help - yota4life - 02-20-2014

Im thinkin the 16" will be enough. Just need to find a place to mount the oil cooler. Whats the best way to get new lines made?

RE: need some help - Simpler=Better - 02-20-2014

Remember, they run at up to 200psi.

Some people weld up new -AN bungs for the cooler and oil filter then use regular AN lines
~or~
You can dremel off the lock rings and crimp on new hoses as long as you need
~or~
Bring the old ones to a hose shop and have a custom one made. (I've heard NAPA can do this, or call around to radiator shops)

RE: need some help - yota4life - 02-20-2014

I think ill just go get some made at napa. Once I find a place to mount it. The guy I bought the motor from cut the original lines off about half way.

RE: need some help - Hario' - 02-20-2014

You can find prefabricated oil lines with ends of your choice crimped on for circa £20-30 each.

RE: need some help - sassparilla_kid - 02-23-2014

I had new oil cooler lines made at a hydraulic shop after one of mine popped

Can someone tell me what this plug is for. It goes to the back of the IP and the white plastic piece on the right of the pic. Thanks guys

RE: need some help - Simpler=Better - 02-25-2014

That's a rack position sensor, it was for the benz's EGR. You don't need it to run the truck.

The white plastic guy on top of the injection pump is the vacuum controller, it's used to simulate engine vacuum like a gas engine and adjust how hard the benz automatic shifts. If you're going to a stickshift you don't need it.

RE: need some help - yota4life - 02-25-2014

Sweet thanks alot for the help man I really appreciate it. Trying to learn this motor and its alot different than the 22re I grew up knowing. So ill get rid of both those today

RE: need some help - yota4life - 04-15-2014

Didnt want to start a new thread so ill just ask in my old one. Are any of the oil cooler lines from newer diesels interchangeable with the om617?

RE: need some help - yankneck696 - 04-15-2014

It would be best to just have some made at a local hydraulic shop. That way, they are correct for your application & usually 3600 PSI. They are pretty inexpensive, especially if you tell them about your wacky project that is nickle & diming you. Also ask about any other hose you can think of & they usually give great advice. Is yours an IFS truck, or SAS?

Yeah hydraulic shops are dirt cheap, and all the guys that work there have been interested in the project in my experience,

RE: need some help - yota4life - 04-15-2014

I was just wondering thanks for the reply. Gonna try and score a set from picknpull monday if not then ill go get custom ones made. Trucks a 2wd ill post a pic of my project and yes it had a hoodstack 3"-4" stainless
