RE: Fail thread - SurfRodder - 11-12-2009

I can't tell you how many times I see something like this when I get to work in the morning... The 'puters are pretty decent, too (dual core Pent 4s clocking in around 3.0GHz) The gov't just has to overburden the machine and OS for 'security'... The best part is that even with the idiot message, the errors are rarely fixed... almost always have to perform a 'Raytheon Reset'.

And one more I realized I hadn't posted yet... this one from my storage place... it may be hard to see, but that sprinkler is like 6" away from a skylight.

RE: Fail thread - SurfRodder - 11-12-2009

(11-12-2009, 04:55 PM)winmutt Linux FTW!

that's all I run, given a choice...

I have on machine (HTPC) that runs winders, but only cause Netflix (& MPAA) still has their head up their ass and wont work with the community to make a real solution. Once that happens, I will never run M$ on my machines again.

RE: Fail thread - Rudolf_Diesel - 11-12-2009

It is hard to make out, but at 70 mph it was tough to take, but that is a casket sticking out of a Chevrolet S-10...Couldn't afford a Hearse?

This is the second time I have seen this. The other time was better, it was a Dodge Caravan with it strapped to the top.

Mythbusters irony.
Myth Evolution: Exploding water heater.

You got the two hosts safely behind the blast shield and in a bunker. Then you have dear little camera guy standing on top of it totally exposed.

The have to heat the water heater to make the vessel reach 325psi. Rather than using the few dozen wind turbines in the background, they haul in a big-ass trailer mounted diesel generator.

RE: Fail thread - winmutt - 11-19-2009

Jackstand fail.

RE: Exploding Water Heater... - SurfRodder - 11-30-2009

My buddies and I are keeping an eye out for an old water heater to modify appropriately (ie weld the relief and ports up) to take to the desert on our next trip. we'll prolly make a 45* ramp from angle iron and see how far we can get that bitch to go. our other 'project' is a cannon made from rigid conduit/some other pipe for propane canister shots.

AAA Fail - ForcedInduction - 12-04-2009

The glowplug switch got kicked on again.... Rolleyes
Called AAA, they send an old fart with a p*ssy little jump box charged to 11v, after that failed we use MY jumper cables to connect to his truck, he hooks it to the circuit box's 4ga wire, doesn't work (obviously), I ask him about using the big red jump terminal on the battery box, "It doesn't work", he then leaves to "get something" from autozone and he returns with a can of ether! I stop him before he can blow up my engine, "don't worry, we use it on our trucks all the time and they have glowplugs", I say "um, cummins engines don't have glowplugs...". At that point I tell him thanks for "trying", he interrupts "I've been doing this for 20 years!", I reply "yeah, you've never had ether blow out a headgasket or backfire in your face when it hits the glowplugs have you? Thanks for trying to start my car, were done here."

Now I have to wait an hour and a half for autozoo to charge my battery.

RE: Fail thread - willbhere4u - 12-04-2009

doesn't sound like he's done if for 20 years or 20 minutes for that matter

RE: Fail thread - ForcedInduction - 12-04-2009

Double fail. The battery fell off my bike while unstrapping it and cracked the body. Now its pissing battery acid everywhere and I had to borrow one from one of Tom Judd's cars until I can buy a new one.

At least the buzzer is wired in, no more glowplug accidents.
FYI, this makes 5 times in 4 years I've kicked it on until the battery was flat and none of the Bosch plugs have burnt out yet.

RE: Fail thread - willbhere4u - 12-05-2009

So that means the glow plugs didn't fail wrong thread buddy!!! lol

RE: Fail thread - ForcedInduction - 12-05-2009

Genuine Bosch FTW! Suck it Autolite!

RE: Fail thread - Rudolf_Diesel - 12-25-2009

WTF?

I saw this at the local Walmart, the cart guy was laughing his ass off as I was takiing pics of this travesty.

RE: Fail thread - 300SD81 - 12-28-2009

Called mercedes roadside for a dead battery infront of my moms house. Guy tried to jump it with this tiny portable jumper battery, barely cranked. Finally got it started with my monster cables on one of the new batteries he had in the back.

Quote:DENVER (AP) - A company that wanted to keep train service going between Denver and the Winter Park ski area said Monday that it is giving up for now.

Iowa Pacific Holdings LLC said it won't be able to operate the ski train this season after failing to resolve differences with Amtrak. The company was negotiating to use Amtrak crews.

The Chicago-based Iowa Pacific claims last-minute demands by Amtrak for insurance coverage derailed the effort. A federal judge last week rejected the company's request for a temporary restraining order against Amtrak that would have allowed it to start running the train last weekend.

Iowa Pacific President Ed Ellis said the railroad had to cancel what would have been the train's 70th season because it relies on advance reservations and they were halted last week. He said the company has refunded most of the 13,000 reservations that were sold.

The company, however, said it will pursue its lawsuit accusing Amtrak of breach of contract.

"We were damaged by Amtrak's changes," Ellis said. "We had invested three-quarters of a million dollars by last week."

Spokesman Marc Magliari said Amtrak worked with Iowa Pacific for three months on a plan to run the ski train, but five days before the start of the season, the company "could not provide Amtrak a federally certified safe train to operate and adequate insurance." Meanwhile, Iowa Pacific was selling tickets for a schedule it knew it couldn't meet even in the best circumstances, Magliari said.

Ellis said he made clear in November e-mails to Amtrak that Iowa Pacific accepted Amtrak's terms and that reservations were being sold. Iowa Pacific claims Amtrak then made other demands.

Ellis disputed that there were safety problems. He said minor modifications were made to bring the train into compliance with current regulations.

A company owned by Denver billionaire Phil Anschutz operated the Ski Train until April, when it was dropped because of costs, schedules and other problems.

Amhack needs to be dumped. They have been a money-losing joke from day 1, promising every year that it will be the year they finally see black on the revenue line of their report. Here is a service that has been in operation for 69 straight years, actually has people fighting to get tickets and Amtrak works hard to find any minor excuse to back out.

Give passenger train control back to the individual rail lines like it should have stayed.

If its not a total failure, its too good for Amtrak's operation standards!

tell me about it... my wife teaches in National City (relatively ghetto area down here) and she has all kinds of horror stories about the quality of education these days...

RE: Fail thread - JB3 - 01-07-2010

My sister spent some time working as a special ed teacher for TFA, same deal. She told me about a kid who had been partially deaf in the grades where you learn to read. This had been dealt with medically by the time he reached high school, but not before he had been placed in all special ed classes because he was "retarded" and could not hear pronunciation during the lessons.

He had been stuck in the system because no one knew about the medical problem when he was young, and by the time the family resolved it, he had been completely written off as a high school senior who could not read green eggs and ham.
