Just rear ended another SUV - Purplecomputer - 11-10-2012

SERIOUSLY?

I always hit SUV's. I suck. This time though the bumper got deformed but can be hammed back out.

Got lucky this time. Nothing needs to be replaced.

Not sure How im going to striaghten out the fram of the car at this point.

The bumper I guess I could either hammer out or just find the middle piece, but all the metal work inside that is meant to fortify it during an accident like mine is all bent out of shape

Yeah... Get the car somewhat straight, and don't leave the driveway without one of these like JB3 did to his car.

This is why the ugly heavy US spec bumpers are better than the Euro bumpers

.....

Get some tie down racheting straps and wrap it around the damaged area. One the other side of it, use a come along like this.

And the attach the come along via another strap to a large tree. You should be able to pull it out enough by this method.

Hmm, I'm sure there is shared responsibility here. But, generally the person doing the rear ending is more at fault, right? Following too close, texting, et cet.
Though sometimes I slam on the brakes when people tailgate me. Would that make me at fault? Ha fuckers

I could go through insurances, but my rates would go up and i would still have pay a 500 dollar deductible

RE: Just rear ended another SUV - Simpler=Better - 11-11-2012

If you can settle man y mano definitely do that, no need for insurance just pay for the other guy's repairs

His car is fine, I just need to straighten out my frame and not sure if I can salvage the bumper.

I got a good look at it and Its going to take hours to hammer that shit into place. I might be better off looking for a new center piece or......

.....installing the US bumpers again Dodgy

RE: Just rear ended another SUV - Simpler=Better - 11-12-2012

Straighten that shit out and stop hitting stuff.

Yeah but if he had his heatset on it all would be better

Pro tip: let the clutch out at a stop light like us old geezers with bad knees do

RE: Just rear ended another SUV - JB3 - 11-12-2012

hahaha

obviously, your next mod needs to be hands free cell through the car speakers. Clearly, this takes precedence over everything.

RE: Just rear ended another SUV - Simpler=Better - 11-12-2012

I bet he won't do it twice though. After a narrow miss while digging for a CD I have changed my distraction priorities

lol, its funny, but realistically not really a laughing matter. What if someone were crossing the street in front of you or ect? There a whole plethora of horrendous outcomes that fortunately, you avoided.

Im with simpler=better, I doubt this happens again, you will be on your guard, and will be easily able to repair your car.

As an example, I don't brake check people anymore after I brake checked a complete a-hole, who then ran me off the road in an entire incident that involved having the police come, ect ect. Was embarrassing enough I'll never ever do it again, at least in my little tin jetta, it it will lose any battle of that kind.

RE: Just rear ended another SUV - Greazzer - 11-13-2012

At least no one got hurt / injured !

That is the most important aspect of the whole incident ! You can always fix a car but not always a person !
