Remove the vacuum lines off EGR? - Gearbound - 07-22-2012

i was short on vacuum lines on the 1982 300td so i stole the lines from the egr. is it always open? or does it open when the coolant get hot?

I need complete vacuum diagrams too. the door locks dont work either

If they happen to be leaking vacuum then it is easier to simply block them off from the rest of the system.

The vacuum to the egr is controlled by both a temperature switch and the switchover valves on the linkage on top of the valve cover. Lots of opportunities for leaks all along the way.

Also, get a mityvac. Or at least a vacuum gauge. The system's not hard to figure out when you have one of those, you just start at the vacuum source and work back.

I'd just remove all the lines associated with the 'black box' on the valve cover.

hmm tempting but doesn't the "mysterious box" have a purpose related to the IP? i see that there are lines to some plastic actuator on the top of the ip and then there is the shut down actuator.

The vcv valve for the transmission vacuum is on the IP.

Here's a diagram. It doesn't really explain what else the switchover valve is doing though. That's probably in some other page of the FSM.

Trust us that the black box is garbage. Do make sure that your VCV is properly setup-it adjusts the harshness of your shifts.

where on the transmission is the vsv driver side or passanger?

The vacuum hose from the VCV on the pump goes to the modulator on the driver's side of the transmission
