VNT/VGT controller options? - TurboWalt - 04-30-2012

Are there any "stand alone" VNT/VGT controller options? If possible I'd like to use a VNT/VGT turbo on my OM602 project. Is anything available of the shelf? I'd be willing to use a homebuilt solution (Ardunio, etc) if someone could provide a functional unit. What's out there, anything?

Walt

You can always go mechanical with a vacuum actuator and pressure valves.

Give that thread a read. The guy seems to know what he is doing.

or:

Arduino controller DIY

If you go for that let me know how it works.
I am not clever enough or too old to solder and get this to run.

Fleece performance sell a holset one for $600.

Here's another "diy" (he ended up making a custom cnc case for a faster actuator motor):

IMO easiest way to control a VGT is to just run a wastegate to actuate the vanes and run it off of drive pressure. The Fleece controller is awesome but it would probably take a little work to adapt it to work on anything other than the 1998.5-2002 Dodge Cummins. Unless they have came out with a stand alone controller just for the turbo. It's been awhile since I looked at their website.

Thanks for the replies. The Fleece unit must connect to a CANBUS so it's not a universal solution. Guess I'll have to look into the mechanical solutions.

They have a standalone controller for the 12v stashed somewhere on there site I think, showed up late last year. Not sure what it requires though.

I had heard some talks awhile back about a stand alone controller coming out for the 12V's, along with one for the 3rd gen 5.9 common rails, but that was the last I had heard of that.

I would imagine with some kind of boost referance and a throttle position signal you could make that stand alone controller work.

looks like someone already posted a link that linked to this one

I found a Fleece Performance Garrett VNT stand alone controller on E/Bay. Weird that I cant find it on Fleece's website. Contacting seller to find out which Garrett VNT's it will work with.

Did you ever find out any info on that thing?? I might be picking up a new 6.7 Dodge here in the near futer. If that happens I'm gonna tear this w123 down and attempt to run an HE451VE on her if I can get enough fuel going to her. I'll probably just use a wastegate though and control the thing off of drive pressure. And maybe a pull cable for the EB. Wink
