Opened up my Baldwin Fuel Filter and here are the results.

Lot of water and pretty filthy. This fuel filter mod was installed back in the beginning of April 2011. So roughly 5 months and it did what it was supposed to do. I am surprised at the amount of water. Def. something I suggest everyone do.

Cheers.

Here is the Baldwin BF7591-D fuel filter modification link.

Great report. That's nasty! Where have you been getting your fuel?

I live in a major city. (Miami).. I pump at good stations. (BP,HESS,EXXON) and so forth. The car was not acting up or anything. I just cracked her open on a hunch. Who knows, maybe it was water mixed with diesel. I doubt that amount of water could be drained from only a 5 month run, but then again, who knows. It felt like very diluted diesel.

Obviously fuel quality is in question here. The best place to get diesel is not always brand names, It's the place that sells a LOT of diesel and the turn over of supply is great. So place like a truck stop is perfect for getting fresh fuel because the fuel does not have time to accumulate water from a leaking tank or just condensation.

Saw this same phenomena when I had a racor water separator installed on my car. Its AMAZING how much water can be in the diesel fuel, same thing happened to me. Couple weeks went by and I had 2 inches of water collected at the bottom of the bowl.

I don't trust the small stock filters anymore after that.

Its funny how a lot of other people not running water seps look at me like I'm crazy for going overkill. Makes one wonder about all other fuels being sold. The prob is that it sucks to have to drive out to the industrial area of town when there's stations at every corner from all my
Regular routes.

City stations are probably not the ideal place, but if it's your only reasonable option in your area, then perhaps a regiment of opening up the drain plug every 3 months to the drain water would be a good idea to extend the life of the filter.

My feelings exactly. Whether it's a Racor, Baldwin & etc, everyone should have that type of lower micron/water separator filter in their cars replacing that inferior stock filter.

Drain monthly into a clear container to see water & particulate. Personally, my next diesel (probably a 4BTA in my 89 F250) will have 3 racor FRG 500's in series. first will be 30 micron second will be 10 third will be 2 or 5 micron. All will have drain bowls on them with water alarms. I HATE bad fuel, unle$$ it's a customer'$ boat $$$$$

lol....Im almost positive its my gas tank. Shes prob filthy. Aside from tire pressures the 2nd most neglected service area in cars is Fuel Filters.
