RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - casioqv - 02-07-2011

Can't you just get the W126 spare from the same car you pulled the brakes from?

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 02-07-2011

Wrong offset.

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 02-08-2011

I would have to carry a few spacers and longer lug bolts to use one off the 126.

So after smashing on the new brakes up in the mountains the biggest thing I noticed is that they don't fade as near as easy. I actually didn't get them to fade once in the same area that I got the stockers to fade out easy. I did smell them but they did not fade.

My friends wagon and his dads wagon at a game of frisbee golf today.

(02-07-2011, 08:30 PM)winmutt LMK what your plan for a spare is.
AAA. Both my cars have batteries in the spare tire well. I keep a 15" spare at home so if I get a flat its either simple tow home or, if I'm local, a bus ride home.

No they aren't. I've used 15" wheels from a 560SEL for years.

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - ID240D - 02-08-2011

Cool picture with the two wagons!Cool BTW thanks for keeping us posted on all the upgrades to the car you've done alot of work to it.

Yes, they will fit.

BTW - A few months ago there were a couple of Lorinser just like yours at my local yard. One front and one rear. Thought about grabbing them, but I didn't. I wonder if they are still there, I stuff them in a recent arrival's back seat.

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 02-08-2011

I see words but I cannot read them because of that awesome sig pic.... Heart

Must have been a newer rim I tried at the jy then.

I still haven't figured out what my rims actually are yet. They look like lorinser rims but they aren't lol.

Took it for a test drive and it's all good. Yay. Back to 26+ mpg instead of this Effing 12- in the superduty.

Next on the aganda is to install my e-codes I got from garage when I purchased his 79 240dog

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - DWitcher - 02-24-2011

You cant just clean the glass? Its too dirty to clean?

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 02-24-2011

Well the reflectors are shot (chrome backing is gone) and the lenses are pitted like crazy. I'm going to run them like they are but id like to get some new glass.

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - garage - 02-24-2011

Ahh i see i see, yeah i never looked at them too closely.

on the w123 I got the euros brand new after market for $150 shipped

and installed 6k hids for low beams and 10k hids in the fog lights for my highs and rewired it so they work together!
I miss my w116 it was a great looking car! I want one with euro bumpers lights and a 606 with a five speed

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 02-25-2011

I would like to get the reflectors redone somehow. Ill mexichrome them for now.

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - garage - 02-25-2011

Looks meeeaaaannnnnnnnn

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - Captain America - 02-25-2011

Yeah that looks a million times better! A totally different car...

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - Biohazard - 02-25-2011

That first pic with the new lights, the car looks so pissed off! I love it!!

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 02-25-2011

It does look angry lol. Car has come a long way in a short time. I'm hesitant to put the bigger elements in as more stuff will start to break. As it sits it's a great driver. Just enough power to no be super slow and enough to have fun in the twistys.

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - garage - 02-26-2011

Haha its just my luck that i give you these lights, then a few days later i buy a w116, haha shiiit.

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dude99 - 02-26-2011

There was someone on one of the forums ( I can't remember which) that took his lights apart, cleaned and then used chrome spray-paint of the reflectors. It worked really well. Actually brighter than the the good light he had....

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 02-27-2011

It's snowing in southern California!!!

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - Captain America - 02-28-2011

Was 28 at my house Saturday night. The Benz started perfectly Big Grin

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 03-05-2011

I think mine needs 2 glowplugs. It starts a little rough and smooths out after few seconds. I got a flashing glowplug light once too.

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 03-05-2011

Oh while I was banned I redid the reflectors in my headlights and had to cut the belt on my a/c compressor since it decided to start to sieze up and smoke the clutch on the compressor.

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - winmutt - 03-07-2011

How did you redo the reflectors?

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 03-07-2011

Chrome spray paint aka mexichrome. Hit them with a soft scotchbrite pad first then a few coats of the paint.

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - DeliveryValve - 03-07-2011

(03-07-2011, 12:03 PM)dieselboy Chrome spray paint aka mexichrome. Hit them with a soft scotchbrite pad first then a few coats of the paint.

Then you can get some yellow tint paint and make French Euros.

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - Captain America - 03-07-2011

My cars stumble a lot less on cold startup after I removed the ALDA.

Also I let the wait about 15 seconds after the glowplug light turns off and she starts much better with no stumble...

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 03-08-2011

found a video! my car at 5:58 lol

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - Captain America - 03-08-2011

How does that compare to the original silver lining?

It doesn't xlimodriver was the first to do it, and he reported "good" results, so I did it on a extra euro and it's utter shit. If you cant locate a good set of reflectors, use ace hardware HVAC aluminum tape. Works much much much much much much better.

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 03-10-2011

Hmm^. I might try that.
But the lighting is fine IMO. It will be better once I get hids in them.

Oh and differential #2 just started making noise. The same noise as the last one. WTF. I'm going to weld the cross pin to the carrier and rock it till I get another diff. Hopefully a 2.88.

You need to stop using the 1.1 liter diffs and get the gasser V8 1.3 liter diffs. Much stronger. Unfortunately there are no 2.88 in the bigger case that fits your car. 3.07/3.06, 2.65, and 2.47.

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 03-10-2011

265 will be fine.

...... That is if you can find one. Pretty much a rare diff and comes with an LSD carrier.

.

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 03-10-2011

I got mine welded up a I'm doing a trip.

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 03-11-2011

Alright just drove 185 miles averaging 75mph and the diff is fine now after I welded the pin to the carrier. I used 1/4 tank of fuel and if I do the math it's around 34mpg not bad for that speed.

RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 03-12-2011

Well put another 200 mi on it and it started to make noise again. So this time I welded it all. Spider gears were shot so I just welded the diff.
I also added my aux tank from the 240d
[Image: 7a759ca1.jpg]
My left side seems to get darker if I don't wash it or a week lol
