RE: My 83 300D - ForcedInduction - 01-14-2011

Don't waste time on oversized extremely slow spooling crap like an HX40. It doesn't increase power, all it does is let a stock car beat the pants off you off the line while you're 1/8th mile back trying to catch up!

Are you sure? Even with a chevy tran with transbrake and custom converter?.(15-20psi when launched at the startline).Could have more if we bleed more oil right to the oilpan so we can higher stall rpm (and boost) at launch, but the oil is almost warmer allready than it should be. Some drag races proved youre wrong! Smile litterly SMOKED several 300-500hp ricers!
This is still a om617 im talking about.

I would love to be able to have a trans brake. I've already got the high stall converter that I'll install when I do the head gasket, rings and bearings...

Its a little bit of work, but its not a problem building a transbrake on mb transmissionSmile You guys have many autotranny specialist over there in the us, so just go ask them.Smile But chevy and some ricers have the easiest solution because there is finnished valveblocks with transbrake for them.
But here is one example of a mb trannySmile

RE: My 83 300D - Captain America - 01-14-2011

THAT'S AWESOME! I didn't know you could make an external one!?!

Brabus, Do you have more information on how to do this?

I can do domestic Chevy transmissions all day long but I have yet to go inside a MB trans. I don't think many people have messed with the MB stuff over here...

RE: My 83 300D - dieselboy - 01-14-2011

I've been looking for a write up for mods that can be done to the transmissions.

RE: My 83 300D - BRABUS - 01-14-2011

I dont have so much information on building trans brake like that, but i will do it with one of my 722.3 some time this summer.
Trans brake locks 1gear and reverse at the same time, so i guess we need to route oil pressure to the reverse gear thru a valve, that releases the pressure for the reverse gear of a push of a button. I'm i not sure of this, but i will ask the local tranny guy tomorrow at amcar club house Smile

RE: My 83 300D - dieselboy - 01-14-2011

Do these have accumulators? Can they be locked out? Can you increase line pressure to improve shifting? Under a load my 2-3 shift kinda drags out yet my 1-2 will chirp the tires sometimes.

Lol question after question but it's rare that you come across someone with real world experience on these. I have a spare transmission in my garage that I'd like to mod and install once mine gives up.

You can turn up the oil pressure in the tranny by turning the vacuum modulator on the left of the tranny with the clock.

RE: My 83 300D - BRABUS - 01-15-2011

Forced

Sure it's possible it's been done here, the specs on the hx40 im not familiar with. Only thing I know is that the smallest exhaust housing and impeller. So it spools up almost like a hx35.

And of course as you say, we need quite a high stall speed to make it spool fast. But its spoolup isn't as slow as you might think!

But im not interessted to make this a thread discuss.
Im sure you understand it!

RE: My 83 300D - garage - 01-15-2011

(01-13-2011, 04:18 PM)dieselboy So what's it cost for you to ship me a headlight setup?...

I have a pair of w116 euros i pulled from the local ecology.
I have yet to see if they work, but all the parts are there.

RE: My 83 300D - dieselboy - 01-16-2011

Any progress on the header? What exhaust are you planning on running?

RE: My 83 300D - BRABUS - 01-17-2011

(01-16-2011, 08:58 PM)dieselboy I'm not going to ruin this thread any more. I just like how you pull words out of other paragraphs and mix it all up. I'd you actually read it I said apply that to the exhaust side of Te engine.

Any progress on the header? What exhaust are you planning on running?

Nothing new on the header.
Im currently removing the old engine, gonna install my om617 turbo engine.
So in a week ill be back on the header manufacturing.
I have 3" straight pipe to one small rear muffler, down pipe going to be 3.5".

RE: My 83 300D - BRABUS - 01-19-2011

I started to repair the turbo engine i gonna use until the custom one i finished.
The oil stick tube came out of the oil pan on it, and of course the oil pump was broken in half.
Have ordered a new oil pump, oil pump chain and oil pan. So i hope i can mount the engine in the car at the weekend.
Here are some pics if someone is interested
[Image: P190111_19110002.jpg]

Is there someone that want me to take pics of the lower internals, oil cooling nozzles ?

RE: My 83 300D - 300D50 - 01-19-2011

I'd be much intrigued by a few more shots of the turbo oil pump, and how it mounts to the block, but only if it's not too much of an inconvenience of course.

RE: My 83 300D - dieselboy - 01-19-2011

Is that oil pan smashed in?
Is that what caused the oil pump carnage?

300D50 I'll take some pics for you. I have 2 turbo 617s apart in my garage.

RE: My 83 300D - BRABUS - 01-20-2011

Yes he i bought the engine of, used some crappy rope to lift it out of the car.
So both the engine and transmission got smashed.
But its all taken care of now Smile

RE: My 83 300D - BRABUS - 01-20-2011

Didnt have som much time in the garage today. Just started to tear apart one 722.3 tranny im gonna modifySmile dont have any pics yet.
Made a cheap looking block of plate for where the sls pump sits.

Yes that is how a trans brake works. Like you said I guess it's just knowing what ports do what, then it would be easy to install a valve/solenoid to make it work.

RE: My 83 300D - BRABUS - 01-20-2011

Yes i think it is so easy. Havent had the time to ask the local tranny guy. But will ask him next time i meet him.

____Big Grin

RE: My 83 300D - BRABUS - 01-20-2011

Does someone have some advices on turning up the fuel on the mw pump im gonna use until i get my 8mm M ip.
Like how many turns on full load and so on?
Will be very happy if someone could guide me thru it, before i mount the oil filter housing.
Is there much to gain by Full Load Limiter Removal?
If i remove the full load limiter, wil the engine idle at normal rpm?

RE: My 83 300D - Captain America - 01-21-2011

Mine has returns to idle very slow, dont remember what we did or how many turns though

RE: My 83 300D - BRABUS - 01-21-2011

Okey. So the best and easiest thing todo is to remove the rack limiter components? Just removing this wil not raise the idle and return to idle, it will just give more fuel like you said?

What if i remove the alda? i guess more fuel at low rpms will help on the spool up...

RE: My 83 300D - dieselboy - 01-21-2011

I removed the Alda and the rack limiter. I also turned in the torque control 3 turns iirc and loosened the rough idle 2. The how to guide is pretty good. I just pulled the pump cover and adjusted the torque control started it with the cover off to see if it returns to idle and kept turning it up till it was slow to return to idle.

RE: My 83 300D - BRABUS - 01-21-2011

So if i turn the torque control 3 complete turns cw and then turn the rough idle 2complete turns cw? it will be pretty good? Wil i have a idle at 3000rpm at my first start upSmile? did that onceSmile i just want to adjust the pump before i put the oilfilter housing on, and im not interessted to remove the oil filter housing for further adjustment. I will only remove it when the 8mm M pump is going in.

How to remove the alda?

Thanks

RE: My 83 300D - led-panzer - 01-21-2011

There is a big nut underneath it, get a big crescent wrench and its just like a nut on a bolt. Plug the boost line going to it. Watch with the torque control, IIRC the amount of adjustment is different for every pump.

RE: My 83 300D - dieselboy - 01-21-2011

It's hard to say yes because I'm willing to bet that my pump is worn out. I'd call 2 safe. Don't get mad if you have to take the pump cover off again though. Just a educated guess.

RE: My 83 300D - led-panzer - 01-21-2011

Adjustment guide says 1\8 to 1\4 turn incriments

RE: My 83 300D - BRABUS - 01-21-2011

I tried to get the alda out now, but how should i do it? should a remove the internal linkage and the vacuum/boost clock? or only the vacuum/boost clock outside of the pump? if i have to take out the internal linkage to the alda. How do i loosen it at the bottom of the pump?

RE: My 83 300D - led-panzer - 01-21-2011

Whoa! You don't have to do all that. Sitting on the very top of the pump is a square housing with a boost line going toward it, that is the alda it doesn't go into the pump. Underneath it is the nut that holds it on, once you wrench it off you will see a shaft sticking up, along with the nut you just turned. Those do not need to come off, the shaft is sealed so nothing will get it. Just plug that boost line and you're done that's it.

RE: My 83 300D - Captain America - 01-21-2011

I believe that the pump on my 300 was replaced shortly before I bought it (was the shiniest part on the motor). Rudolf might remember how far we turned up my pump, but I don't think we changed much at all and the return to idle is very slow compared to stock. My pump must be more sensitive...

RE: My 83 300D - BRABUS - 01-21-2011

Allright. Then it should not be a problem removing it. But is it in the square plate on the top u guys use to take out the rack limiter when removing?

RE: My 83 300D - Captain America - 01-21-2011

Use a magnet to catch it and pull it out through the top.

RE: My 83 300D - dieselboy - 01-21-2011

I found that you can pull the rack limiter out the top with a magnet, if you pull the linkage wide-open it gives you more room to get it out.

RE: My 83 300D - BRABUS - 01-22-2011

alda removedSmile

rack limiter alsoSmile

I still have those parts sitting in the console of my turbo 240D every one who get in the car ask what they are!

I just say I took the injection pump apart and put it back together and these parts where left over when I was done!

RE: My 83 300D - BRABUS - 02-01-2011

Smile i will do the same willbhere4hu.. Smile

RE: My 83 300D - BRABUS - 02-04-2011

as i have been sick for almost 2weeks, not much happened with the car.
Took the car into the garage today, and took the old engine out.
Gonna mount the "temporary" engine in tomorrow, hopefully i can start the header some day next week. I need the car ready pretty soon, because we need to move all 10-12 cars to out new garage.
Here are some pics.

I love the 4 lights on the front. Any idea what kind are they?

RE: My 83 300D - BRABUS - 02-07-2011

They are from a europaen car accessories store. Called biltema Smile
all 4 lights cost 80 dollarsSmile well worth it after i installed 55 xenon in all 4 lights.
When its winter here we have 1-2 hours of daylight each day, so good lights is really neat.

I still have another set of the Hella h500 for the front of my 240d turbo project! That is exactly how I want mine to look but the Euro bumpers look so much nicer than my US ones!

RE: My 83 300D - BRABUS - 02-09-2011

Yes the euro bumpers is much nicer. What the hell did they think when they maid the us?!?! Smile
The "new" engine is finally mounted. Need to fit the lower oil pan, left transmision line and have locktite on the converter bolts.
Went to the store today and bought bends and pipes for the header... I guess i will start with it this weekend.
