Intercooler on a 300TDT 603A - Einar - 08-23-2010

Hi, I have a `94 E300 TD Turbo(almost alike the `87 you have), and I`m Considering installing an intercooler on this engine.

I have a intercooler, probably too small(from a Suzuki/peugeot 1.9 diesel).
I`m working on a new front bumper with room for a IC in front of the radiator.

What would be the best option for the intake manifold, welding a new inlet on the original one, or a non-turbo manifold with a plenum welded on too connect it with the compressed intake air?

I only have a hose for the ALDA connected on the intake plenum, nothing else, no sensors as on the older ones.

Thanks for answers, and discussion of this.

Is there anyone here with some ideas or experience about this?

did you think of a water cooled IC?

I made a rough installation with an IP on the passenger side of the engine, the turbo is directly connected from below and the IC leads the cool air in 90° angle horizontally into a custom made transfer tube.
Place for a small water radiator in front of the AC condenser, the water pump will be located somewhere in the bumper-radiator area.
Pics should be here somewhere.

I have been thinking about it, yes, Also seen small W/A IC that fits between turbo and the tubing over the head.

But I have a A/A IC, and I think about keeping it as simple as possible. But W/A is a good possibility...

I don't know what is simpler in the case of W124.
No space in the bumper, no space in front of the radiator for a A/A (without cutting).

I have started building a new front bumper, w212-style, if it is lokking ok it should be lots of romm for a low IC in front of the radiator, with original bumper, forget it.
