Swirl Prechambers - Actros617 - 06-13-2010

Anyone tired this on a OM617??? Is there any swirl prechamber that will fit into a OM617

RE: Swirl Prechambers - ForcedInduction - 06-14-2010

The factory PC is swirl by design.

RE: Swirl Prechambers - winmutt - 06-14-2010

I think hes referring to the rotated hotspot and off center spray in the om 60x chamber.

RE: Swirl Prechambers - ForcedInduction - 06-14-2010

He would need to machine new lower injector bodies to fit the new thread pitch.

I thought the problem would be more in the prechamber? In the om60x don't they sit at and angle in relation to the engine? Looked for an image in the W124 fsm without much luck.

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooo! thats a sexy injector!

RE: Swirl Prechambers - ForcedInduction - 06-14-2010

The angle is in the collar. Problem is the swirl engines use different thread lines as well so the injectors aren't a straight swap like the prechamber.

RE: Swirl Prechambers - Actros617 - 06-15-2010

How about using a OM60x injectors instead of modifying it???

the PC aren't straight swap either.
One thing is to cut/unscrew them and combine a lower part 617a with the upper part of an 60x somehow.
Don't know about the outer diameter but it is doable.

I think early 60X-injectors and 61X-injectors have almost the same body and treads, or am I far away?

I have a loose 603A-head if anyone want some info, but I havent got enough power to loosen the PC`s.

They are identical other than the model of nozzle used.

The 602/603 we are talking about with the angled prechambers are only found in the 1989+ W140 and 300D 2.5 models (in the US).

In 1989, Mercedes-Benz presents revised engines which cut particulate emissions by around 40 percent. Their features include a new pre-chamber with oblique fuel injection, which enables more efficient combustion. The diesel technology improvement program under which these engines are developed is called the "Diesel '89" initiative.

Also, I made a mistake; the updated injectors screw into the prechambers instead of the collars.

RE: Swirl Prechambers - winmutt - 06-15-2010

That was the cut away I was looking for.

RE: Swirl Prechambers - ConnClark - 06-16-2010

The impingement pin is also essential to getting the air to swirl. I believe in 1987 Mercedes did angle the bottom of the pin in the OM603 to reap some of the benefits.

AHA, I forgot the "Diesel-Facelift" in `89.
