New with interesting Land Rover 110 Project - be gentle!
Aim: To make an om606 capable of hard launches/ fast-road action in a Land Rover 110 (~2 tonne 4x4) application.
Just putting a parts list together in my head and so far have:
- HX40 Super turbo
- 8mm 603 pump from Dieselmeken
- KKD exhaust manifold
I think 400hp would be amazing in a rickety old Land Rover, but a bit worried that there'd be too much lag using an HX40. Also what's the best manifold to go with? KKD's looks good. Looking for simple bolt ons, higher quality the better!
I've been waiting for ages to join this forum and thanks so much for the resources available here!
Peace
Fred
Hi, nice to have you here.
PTRacing would be my choice, I have his manifold and atypicalguy also has (both are complex compound style manifolds). Reasonably priced. He also is from finland like kkd.
Here you can find Pyry: https://www.facebook.com/pyry.takkunen.1?fref=ts and say greetings from here
And some stuff he has done: https://www.facebook.com/pyry.takkunen.1...736&type=3
It's not goanna be a huge amount of use off-road with only the hx40 on. You could do with compounding it to get the best of both worlds. Have a look at gazfabricarions. They've got a 606 in a disco. Might give us some ideas. There's has a supercharger on it.
Thanks for the replies guys, was hoping to avoid a compound setup to keep it simple but I love the idea of them. Thanks Sultzi will see if you have a build thread where I can have a look at the manifold. Is there a typical compound setup/parts list that people use? Most I've seen are pretty complex.
Thanks
Just seen a vid of a G-Wagen (JSJFIN on the forum) with compound turbos and the torque/ acceleration off the line was decent and what I'm looking to do.

606110, here is my build thread where is pics of the manifold too

and also atypicalguy has put some pics in here

I have been driving with this setup now around 17500km without any supports for the turbos (just mounted the manifold to the head), gives you some clue for the quality what pyry can do.
Thank you Sultzi, have just read through your build thread and your whole setup is spectacular!
Would love a compound turbo setup but the additional expense with twin turbos as well as the added complication with fabrication is putting me off.
What would be the best single-turbo setup for low-down torque and response, I'm guessing an HX40 would lag like mad in an off road situation as Mallinman's already pointed out.
Sorry to interrupt but i have something to share and also something to learn....
I 've seen 606 hx35 twin scroll #12 housing in road car, it does lag, in my opinion not suited for off road vehicle.
Hx 35 and 40 share same core is correct? If not wich are the main diff?
605 is great. It goes really well. I would have liked the 606 but it meant too much cutting at the front and I wanted it to stay standard looking. You can't tell its in. If I can find a few more inches then il fit it in. Story of my life really.
Thanks Mike, have been looking at DPUK but all their prices are ex. VAT, which means pretty expensive. £800 with VAT @20% is £960! Was thinking KKD's or similar would be cheaper, ideally buying from someone on the forum here.
Does anyone know of a turbo which'll make 40 pounds of boost, and spool fast enough to be usable in an offroad vehicle? Would rather steer clear of a compound setup for simplicity.
Thanks for the info btw
Right now I have an S200G which had a 54mm compressor...so similar to HX35. I would not recommed this for offroad torque! But, I had an HX30 before and that thing made NO power above 3000 rpm on 90cc of fuel. I have a w126 which is heavy and the off boost torque is still pretty good, but I don't hit full boost til 3000. If I had more fuel or better rear axle ratio it might be a whole different game.
larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?
If you're not worried about fuel consumption a supercharger sounds perfect

Thanks for the info, planning this is actually pretty fun! Will most likely be keeping it simple with a tubular manifold, single turbo and dieselmeken 8mm. Am I right in thinking the Borg Warner would be the most modern turbo out of similar Holset and Garrett units? Also debating manual or auto transmission.

Manual is more fun, and I like it more because you can control your wheelspin in snow/mud/sand easier than an autmoatic.
But autos launch much nicer when you hold the brakes and spool up the torque converter. And they're easier to lug over rocks, etc. than slipping a clutch.
It's your call, really.

Do you think so? Looking at a 722.6 if it'd fit in the LR chassis, option of Ole's standalone controller later down the line too which would be epic. Thinking of using Ashcroft ATB's front, rear and centre, I have V8 24 spline halfshafts which may last. Not sure about props but need to look into it if running a divorced LT230.
Thanks for looking!
Give Neil at Rakeway Motorsport a call, I just bought an adaptor housing and shaft that lets you mate the MB ML722.6 to an LT230 transfer. Mine is going into a Volvo 6x6 and this avoids having to remote mount the transfer. I post some pics of the housing next week
Nick
Nick S, never thought of Rakeway, just had a look and I'll drop them an email. Would love to see some pics!!
scrubs I think Gaz-fab make adaptors for the ZF auto box or R380 manual, neither of which would last long behind a decent-power engine. Have considered them though so thanks.

For custom flywheel and clutch use Cgmotorsports.
http://www.clutch-specialists.co.uk
There who I used for my custom flywheel twin clutch setup. Really helpful. The bloke must have been out about 5 times doing trial fits and runs. And he gave me a price at the beginning and never charged more. Even tho he made extra bits like extended spigot housing and things. Couldn't rate them enough.
Thanks mate, trying to put as much info as I can together at the moment. An auto seems less work and the stronger option although I have no idea abut the electrical side of it and other disadvantages. Really good to know there's people who can help the clutch setup. Did you use a dual mass flywheel?
Thanks for the info guys, no donor vehicle yet just trying to come up with a decent plan, parts list etc.
Am quite tempted now to go with Dieselpumpuk for the mechanical pump/manifold/turbo setup, and go with the 722.6 auto box, fitting Ole's standalone controller at a later date. Have been told a few times how juddery a manual setup can be. Paddle shift on an old 110 would be all kinds of perverse as well, which appeals haha.
Is not that dificult...
Shring the pic to 500mb. Then add the file usind the menu "reply" instead of the fast reply mode.
Then choose the pic. And insert in text or as atacment.
Then use "preview post" feature , the picture apper as a code name in brackets. After that is just moving it where u want in the text.
Some pictures exibit error . Dont know asweat to that.

(07-03-2017, 05:20 AM)606110 I'm assuming everyone here would pick an om606 over the 605 for this application, only I might buy a nice condition 605 which is available.

hi 606110 i own gaz-fab and you might be interested to know i am bringing an adaptor kit for a th400 to 606 which might suit you, you can use the lt230 with a adaptor kit to the th400
