I was wondering if someone could explain how external wastegated are typically controlled on diesels. When used solely to control backpressure, can you just leave the wastegate spring pressure to be opened by the backpressure, or do you need to connect it to intake psi? I have read a lot of examples on other sites but nothing was really fully explained. Seems gas cars only care about boost creep, but some Cummins forums mentioned leaving them unconnected to react to backpressure.

I have only had it hooked up to intake or ran no wastgate. That is what tuning is all about though. Gotta try both ways and see what works for ya.

Any given turbo is designed to run at an optimum pressure ratio and gas flow. So a good starting point is to have the WG reference inlet manifold and set to stock boost pressure..




Installed:

OM606/722.6, big IC, W220 brakes.
Planned:
DIY manifold, compound, 722.6 controller, built IP.
