People couldn't figure out what to give me for years, as I really only want tools and/or car parts and im a much better judge of what I need to buy than a relative. Requesting a food gift like that lets them research something you might not otherwise have any idea exists, and its a one time use thing that rewards the stomach.

Ive had good results with requesting a gift certificate to some fabulous restaurant. The gift that keeps on giving, plus its a great romantic evening thing for you and the wife.

-1982 300D Turbo, 280k miles, ALDA apparently maxxed, fram 8038, 12 lbs boost, non-egr manifolds, W/M injection, 4 brake light mod, Gen II w126 front rotors/calipers, 4-speed swap
In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )
-1974 240D, FRESH PAINT!!!!!!

hacksaw blades? you should ask for a sawzall then if you don't have one. I have a ryobi one im very pleased with

Seriously, go buy a snapon hacksaw. You won't look back. It's cast aluminum with a rubber coating. No flex, no wobble, it's sturdy as all get-out. You have an upright blade pin and a 45* blade pin. Awesome.

12-20-2013, 03:14 PM #8I got an awesome DeWalt cordless a few years back, but it's on loan to my stepdad. I've only needed to hacksaw 3 times in the last few years, so my M-F-SNAPON hacksaw gets all the lovin'

Is the price of that hacksaw based on reality? Or is it a snapon standard inflated rate?
I have a very similar looking cast aluminum hacksaw that is pretty decent. Came from ace hardware for 25 bucks.
I like snapon equipment, but its beyond affordable IMO generally. I have a snap on torque wrench, a couple of picks, and a regular ratchet. The value of these 4 items (especially the torque wrench) is a lot higher than all my other tools combined.

Id ask for a OM617a spare engine. Then you have something else to play with and mule for test parts. Or just general tinkering.
