Looking at buying a '93 300D with 214,000 miles. The owner says the transmission "sometimes" slips between gears and when he shifts into reverse it will only move about ten feet. Now are these newer 300D electronic controlled transmissions? Is it beyond a fluid and filter change?I would really would like to buy this car because is in great shape.Any advice would be great.

They are mechanical transmissions, and unless he somehow overlooked the fluid level, that transmission is toast.

Before you jump the gun. What happens after 10ft in reverse. If it makes it into reverse it should drive forever. Kx Spring kit might fix the flare.

Manual trans sounds like a better deal.

Got the benz home sat. night, ran and shifted fine.Drove it to work this morning. In reverse it goes ten feet and it feels like the rear brake are "grabbing".It doesn't feel like a transmission problem. This weekend i'll jack the back up to inspect everything.Other than that I love it so far......Big Grin
