FS: Custom Billet oil filter relocation plates. (No Longer Available)
There turned out to be more than one person interested, so here's a thread dedicated to them.
Posts from my other thread are being moved over to keep everything easily viewable.
We have a quote! see post 7 for details.
[admin edit] the date on this post is fudged for proper ordering,.
I'm interested in a billet oil filter relocation plate. Super simple.
Me Too!! What would that cost and how long to get it?
(02-12-2011, 06:47 PM)300D50 Still have to work up a quote, should be early next week I'll have an answer.

Just got a quote on the stock, we are good to go.
Here's the rundown.
I'm looking to use USPS flat-rate for shipping, so shipping will be around $5.50 domestic, $14 or so international. I can use other options if you would like.
$25 gets you one plate, 1/2" thick, with your choice of size and treatment on the inlet/outlet holes.
Shipping will be invoiced along with the order, if you are international, I'll invoice the difference.
I can thread the holes, or leave them un-threaded for weld-on bungs or for you to tap yourself.
Turbo oil feed ports and gauge ports are doable as well, just let me know what you need. As long as it's not something complex and exotic, there will not be extra fee.
I'm looking into getting the needed bolts to replace the stock Mercedes ones as well, I should have a quote on them by the end of the week. If it's cheap enough, a bolt pack should be about a buck.
I can work with metric as well, so if you want a metric thread let me know and I'll tell you if I have the tap or not.
Since I can't embed a PayPal button directly, and I don't feel like posting an email for spam-bots, here's a link to the page with the button.
EDIT:
Stock has been ordered, prototype is finished.
Resting on the filter housing, short bolts in to keep it from sliding off.
The holes are the same size as the existing ones in the filter housing, so alignment should be the same.
Next to the print template, there is no flash, the surface is just that reflective.
I'll throw it on my block when I get home for a final test-fit.
Sorry for the crummy pic, this thing is too shiney to take good pictures of unless the lighting is perfect...
I have to adjust the hole center for the outlet(perfectionist that I am...), that's waiting on a good gasket from Rusty.
Stock is in, getting picked up tomorrow. Ended up getting a better deal on it, so I can shave $5 off the price, down to $25 a plate. The pre-order/order button has been adjusted for this.
I want the filter housing off the motor just to play with the pump, But I cant think of a good spot to relocate it...
Sweet! I'll be sending money your way soon! 2 with the 1/2 in/out.

Jesse, I know that feeling! All profit from this will very likely (near 100% certainty) end up going straight back into the engine...
I'm also willing to trade for like-value in parts, so that is an option if you happen to have something I might need/want.
:ninjaedit:whoops, you edited your post before I hit submit!

(02-17-2011, 03:08 AM)300D50 That's a good question, for which I have the universal answer of "hm, got fender?"
The one issue I can see with remote mounting the existing housing is the hardlines for the oil cooler, they might need to be bent up a bit...
I can make a non-contoured version of the plate for the filter side, since clearances aren't an issue, and leave some overhang for mounting ears if you want. I can even drill and tap it the existing M8x1.25 thread, so you can reuse the bolts.

Well Ive got two turbo engines!
Hey 300D50, im interested just need to clarify a few things with my motor.
I have a 603 from a 88 300D.
But I threw this motor in a w201 190E. So I would love to relocate the oil filter housing, just doesn't like to be in that engine bay, it seems like.
Do any of you guys know if this plate will fit the 603 motor, I actually don't think so, but who knows.
Not sure, but a filter stand gasket or spare housing is all I need to whip a new plate up.
I wouldn't be able to test the fit on the engine though, since I don't have a 60X.
Ok, we are 98% there.
Stock is cut, second prototype is finished, and it's time to double-check everything on the block once more.
Once the gasket is in, I'll have the bypass line and the block inlet (filter outlet) hole tweaked to match.
Production units shouldn't have the bolt marks around the mounting holes, I just didn't feel like messing with it this time around.
Again, sorry for the crap picture, I need to figure out how to light it evenly enough that it doesn't reflect...
Just a late thought. I realized that the turbo feed is off the filter.
I'm trying to figure out what to do with that.
It's trivial to add a turbo feed port/gauge port.
No extra charge for it, so don't worry.
to light evenly you need a soft box. like bounce light off a big white card or through a big white sheet. and move the light further away. But, metal like that is hard no matter what.
Uneventful test-fit last night, I can proceed to get the stock blanks faced and drilled now, awaiting final inlet/outlet work latter on.
(02-18-2011, 09:27 PM)300D50 For parts, or working? I'd hate to steal parts from a working engine.

PM going your way.
Oh, and the gasket came in! I'm dead-nuts perfect on the filter inlet hole, the filter outlet hole is off by a bit. I'll have that fixed tomorrow, and should have at least 2 plates in the mail by the end of the week.
Ok, deffinitly can get a oil filter housing gasket sent out to you. Would that be enought for getting a plate done up.
I should be able to get it with just the gasket, might need a pic of the filter housing and block sides just to be sure.
300D50,
Got the plate. Great job. Well made and very nice.... And cheap! Now to get some fittings and throw it on the engine in storage, and pump fresh oil into it.
.
Glad you like it!
I try to keep my prices reasonable, my conscience does "bad things" to me if I don't.
Here's the plates that were made for Dropnosky, 2 filter-stand with mounting ears, 2 block side plates, all drilled for 1/2 npt inlet/outlet and 1/4 npt bypass lines.
Yes they look sweet
let me get back to you in a week with spring break around the corner. I can finally take the diesel out while it was buried under all that snow.
So, in you post #7 price quote is for a single plate. But, to relocate the filter housing away from the block someone would need
1 plate for block
1 plate for filter housing
some oil lines
misc hardware
sound about right?
Yes, to relocate the oem housing takes a block side and a filter side plate.
To relocate with an aftermarket housing needs only one for the block.
You'll need five 25mm long M8x1.5 bolts and five M8 wave/star/regular washers for the engine side.
For the filter housing plates, I can tap the holes M8x1.5 so you can reuse the oem bolts, 5/16-18 for cheap standard hardware, or just drill them through. The mounting ears can be customized as well.
Hoses and fittings are up to you, since every situation is unique, and most hydraulic stores or NAPA stores can make them cheaper than I ever could.
I also am willing to trade, so feel free to ask.
Let me know If I forgot anything, I'm winding down for the day.
Got mine yesterday. Look great.
I'm going to run a double filter head somewhere just don't know where yet. I ordered line -8 and the fittings I need from summit. Just need to figure out what to do on the oil cooler side of things.
So I guess my question is: Can you get rid of the bulky stock filter housing? I know it has the thermostat inside and I remember it having a few different functions....
It does bypass filtration, has the cooler t-stat, and has a "clogged filter" pressure valve, that diverts around the filter in the event it's severly clogged.
That's what I know.
Man I used to have a PDF that explained everything it did with a cutaway shot ... Dunno where it is
Glad you like em!
Let me know if there are ANY problems, and I'll do my best to work them out.
your plates are getting talked about over here just thought you might like to know

I will check for space tonight for the filter housing...
Are these still available?
Lead time?
Well, Crud! Now I want/need one since I will be swapping housings anyway... Let me know when you have them or are getting ready to make a run, I may still want one.
