decision time - oil coolers necessary?
decision time - oil coolers necessary?
currently working on oil-lines, and have started wondering if the stock oil-cooler is really necessary?
Other then reduced oil capacity...are there any other issues I may encounter in a non-autobahn continent?
thanks,
manny
With the turbo, I would keep it. Cheap insurance for a pricey project you have there.

No doubt you need oil cooler, the bigger the better and please use cooler with thermostat
and turbo happy!

Yeah, I get "whats that hose" quite a bit. I think the looks are worth it to keep oil out of the intake.
Ahhh yes. With mine, I routed it to the drivers side between the lines right at the PS box and loosely secured it to the brake rod. It doesn't hang quite as low as yours
Mines on the drivers side down low too but I hardly ever get anything out of it.
Deleting the oil-cooler to provide for a Cleaner Install and eliminate potential oil leaks associated with lines/oil-cooler in the future.
vs
Benefits with turbo/motor longevity gained from the oil-cooler.
keeping the cooler
thanks for the replies...

decided to run one of these from Earl's:

Oil Thermostat and some line routing/cleaning are all that remain for this issue
