OM617 oil filter adapter question - gregman_1 - 08-08-2017 Hey guys. Working on my 617 getting it ready for the swap and have a quick question. I have been considering using an oil filter relocation adapter from either Koch or Doomsday Diesel to change it over to a spin on filter. If I do this, will it be possible to access the rear of the injection pump for tuning without removing it? Thanks in advance! RE: OM617 oil filter adapter question - NZScott - 08-09-2017 Provided the thing you need to shift the housing out of the way for isn't in the way RE: OM617 oil filter adapter question - gregman_1 - 08-09-2017 (08-09-2017, 12:08 AM)NZScott Provided the thing you need to shift the housing out of the way for isn't in the way I'm putting the engine in an old Wrangler so I have a ton of room, I have considered the relocation kit so I can use spin on filters, and if I can get at the back of the IP for tuning without taking it out, that's a huge plus. RE: OM617 oil filter adapter question - NZScott - 08-09-2017 Ahaa The stock filter system is engineering genius IMO with ease of servicing along with the fact it has a built in bypass filter. You're not really going to make that many pump adjustments are you? Keeping the stock pump I guess you would do a few but once they're done that's it, and taking the whole pump off each time isn't actually that bad. Your engine however so you're free to do as you please ![]() RE: OM617 oil filter adapter question - Simpler=Better - 08-13-2017 If you relocate it, relocate the stocker. It makes for nice clean oil changes. RE: OM617 oil filter adapter question - NZScott - 08-13-2017 (08-13-2017, 07:46 PM)Simpler=Better If you relocate it, relocate the stocker. Yes that's an an option too I forgot all about, personally don't see the effort is worth it just to do pump adjustments but once again one can do what one likes RE: OM617 oil filter adapter question - gregman_1 - 08-24-2017 OK, looks like I'll keep the stock setup and utilize that $100 elsewhere on the engine. I was thinking I could avoid pulling/replacing/timing the IP during the tuning process (I've been told it's about 4 hours off/on), and was interested to think I could keep using the same PH16 filters the old engine takes, but I know when to take good advice. RE: OM617 oil filter adapter question - NZScott - 08-24-2017 Takes about 10 mins to take off and a bit longer to get on to time it so dunno where 4 hours comes from ![]() |
