1986 300E 5 speed trans any good? - llopness - 06-24-2016

Is the 5 speed from a 1986 300E 5 speed strong for an OM606?
I can acquire one relatively cheaply.
I already have a 2.3-16 5 speed but I'd really like an overdrive.

It's a 717.430. Google it and read what the internets say, FWIW. I'd rather not comment because I don't have any direct experience.

What car and what diff gear are you using?

I have one in my 124 and 605. Shifts great after rebuilding and using the updated synchro's. Down side is with my stock 2.65 diff the gearing is WAY to tall. Engine RPM is at 1750 @ 75mph. First gear is tough to take off in due to clutch and gearing, a 3.27 diff would make it much better i think.

I have a 16v diff in pieces if interested.

its a lot weaker than your 717.404.

i ran on stock clutch, a 717.430 supposed to be lowmileage, a om602 with stock turbo 7.5mm dieselmeken, about 200hp.
no clutch slippege, and gearbox said goodbye after 20000km. and thats the second 717.430.
the one that i bought the car with broke 100km after i bought it, this one now.
