OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - Gearbound - 06-26-2014 So i have been digging around in the threads here and learned about the 603. -Heads that Crack have the casting number 14,15 - NA splits rods around 400hp depending on turbo size - 606 rods have been used in 603 because there stronger -6mm elements can be swapped from 606 to 603 but need calibrated for smooth operation. -hy35 for mild performance -hx35 not quite wild -he351 is VNT or WG. rod bender for NA 603 I had the w123 om617 then sold it, had withdrawls from it and was on a rant for 606 but there to rare and expensive so im looking into a Turbo 603 w124. at some point i want 350hp. I will get an EGT and Boost guage to see how a stock one is tuned and when modified say away from 1200*f 1. what can the stock pump support with a hx35? 2.manual gear box option and clutch? RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - raysorenson - 06-26-2014 You talking crank or wheel horsepower? RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - Gearbound - 06-26-2014 Wheel HP RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - winmutt - 06-27-2014 I've got a stock number 14 that has to be pushing 300 or near it. The engines can handle it (or making them so is relatively easy), everything else behind them has to be replaced and is more difficult (imo) to source/plan/execute. RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - mbz123 - 07-01-2014 (06-26-2014, 11:12 AM)Gearbound So i have been digging around in the threads here and learned about the 603. WOW, may I take this opportunity to thank you kindly sir. First round is on me. (06-26-2014, 11:12 AM)Gearbound 1. what can the stock pump support with a hx35? Nominal, if any, gains to be had here without increasing fuel first. Pushing in more air is just that, pushing in more air. (06-26-2014, 11:12 AM)Gearbound 2.manual gear box option and clutch? Oh boy, where to start? I would suggest digging around in the transmission threads next. SHYTE-TON of info to process there and always being added to. Has turned my brain to pudding plenty of times. Have a 603 myself so interested in what you find. Report back. MBZ123 RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - Tito - 07-01-2014 I've got to admit, i'm quite surprised about the 603 NA. I've had it up to max rack travel with stock (bosch, no dieselmeken or something) 7mm elements and hx35w with my redneck trottle (trottle hooked up to the rack ) And held up surprisingly well... I still want a dyno run at my job but the clutch is bad. I'm guessing its about 300-350 hp daily driver. Goes easily over 220 km/h (max speed on tacho) RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - mbz123 - 07-02-2014 (07-01-2014, 02:55 PM)Tito ...with stock (bosch, no dieselmeken or something) 7mm elements... Stock 7mm elements? Stock on what? Not computing, please explain. MBZ123 RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - Tito - 07-02-2014 Stock Bosch elements. So the elements for the m-pump from Bosch. I thought they're fitted on some kind of boat that had 7mm elements. Fitted by a Bosch service point. RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - DiseaselWeasel - 07-02-2014 Got a part number? RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - yankneck696 - 07-02-2014 For a trans, get an adapter plate & put an AX15 from a Jeep or Dodge product. That should hold well. Ed RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - mbz123 - 07-03-2014 (07-02-2014, 05:58 AM)Tito Stock Bosch elements. So the elements for the m-pump from Bosch. I thought they're fitted on some kind of boat that had 7mm elements. Fitted by a Bosch service point. Good to know, thx. MBZ123 RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - Tito - 07-03-2014 (07-02-2014, 06:28 AM)DiseaselWeasel Got a part number? I'll try to dig true some old photos.... Very busy at the moment... Edit: i'm sorry, no part numbers.... I have seem them somewhere not to deep in the internet. I thought it was on this forum. But can't find it.... maybe someone can tune in here? RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - Petar - 07-04-2014 dieselkontor.de ??? i think it's the old ford transit element but i am not sure RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - DiseaselWeasel - 07-04-2014 Sounds like it Btw. I have a cracked #17 head here RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - Tito - 07-04-2014 (07-04-2014, 01:56 PM)Petar dieselkontor.de ??? i think it's the old ford transit element but i am not sure I didn't order them there. Could be the same elements. However I doubt it. Because they also offer high rpm special surface coated elements. Doesn't seem really stock to me. Maybe they're the one coating the stock bosch elements or something. Also there's no part number on their webshop. RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - mbz123 - 07-06-2014 (07-04-2014, 02:09 PM)DiseaselWeasel Btw. I have a cracked #17 head here Anything worthy of a little storytime? MBZ123 RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - DiseaselWeasel - 07-07-2014 I don't know the story, I bought it as a spare. But it certainly didn't come off a highly tuned engine Probably just abused like so many... RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - Gearbound - 07-09-2014 5.5mm IP and hx35 is a useless combination then? the AX15 or r150 would be a nice set up or r154 in a supra,cressida,3 series,etc... RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - winmutt - 07-10-2014 Even a HX30 and 5.5mm elements would be pretty useless. Without more fuel, these cars are pretty optimally designed already. RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - Gearbound - 12-07-2014 anything praticular to look for when in search of a om603 car? numbers on the ip or engine that say its a better revision? RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - capflya - 12-08-2014 The cylinder head casting... higher number the better Check the coolant res and if it's nasty looking (purple/brown/black ish) the car probably overheated at some point and may or may not have been fixed. There's a detailed w124 buying guide out there but I forget where I saw it. Google w124 buyers guide and you'll probably find it, I think it's from another forum member over at peachparts ? Been awhile since i've referenced it. RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - Gearbound - 03-09-2015 http://www.transmissionadapters.com/Mercedes%20diesel.htm emailed the folks there and bob here replied quite promptly if i might add "The kit, once installed, enables you to use all Chev flywheel and clutch parts from 1985 and older 350 engines. Using a T56 however is a bag of worms. The only T56 that will bolt right up to my kit without modifying it is the one that came from behind LT1 engines. Bob" so the th350 and all the other transmissions are up for grabs. l believe i will go this route. @jeemu where can i buy 606 rods at? I think this 603 needs 450hp to the wheels RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - raysorenson - 03-09-2015 If you use a TH350 and a loose converter, the stock gearing might work out. RE: OM603 ideas for 300-350hp - Gearbound - 03-09-2015 well there is the 700r4 which is a overdrive trans too. then for the techy people the 4l60e and 4l80e. and get a tranmission standalone controller. which could be a flappy paddle gearbox if one was inclinded to have a car like that. |
