Air conditioner woes - sassparilla_kid - 06-03-2012 I just went to recharge my A/C a little bit ago, and the stupid compressor isn't kicking in. I turned it on full blast and hooked up my little charging thing to low pressure side and I guess it filled that side up but the compressor wasn't doing anything. I am pretty certain the compressor is good since its only a year old, so I'm guessing that its something vacuum or electrical related. So if anybody has any suggestions, they're much appreciated because the 103*F summer heat is here (although its supposed to cool off this week) and I would really really really like to have air conditioning again RE: Air conditioner woes - DeliveryValve - 06-04-2012 (06-03-2012, 06:09 PM)sassparilla_kid I just went to recharge my A/C a little bit ago, and the stupid compressor isn't kicking in. Try jumping the two blue leads going into the pressure sensor on the dryer together. This will kick in the clutch. If the clutch doesn't kick in, then test the the leads with a light lead tester. If that doesn't work, then there is something in the electrical circuit that is hopefully easy to fix. . RE: Air conditioner woes - sassparilla_kid - 06-14-2012 Tried jumping them (I think/hope it was the right ones, it was dark out and no flashlight lol) and no compressor clutch magic, so I'll try testing them out with a test lamp RE: Air conditioner woes - winmutt - 06-20-2012 Try again with light. Does the 82 have a OVP relay/fuse? I know the 85 does... RE: Air conditioner woes - sassparilla_kid - 06-20-2012 No idea, I guess I could probably look in my a/c factory shop manual to figure out more about what's goin on lol RE: Air conditioner woes - sassparilla_kid - 07-14-2012 Okay, I tried to two leads on the pressure sensor/switch/whatever on the receiver/drier with a test lamp, here is what I did: 1. With tester grounded, checked first lead, which had power 2. Still grounded, checked other lead for shits and giggles, and nothing as expected 3. No current when the tester was connected between the leads I guess this means there is an electrical problem somewhere, and I should probably check where that faulty lead goes to, unless somebody knows offhand and wants to let me in on the secret!! RE: Air conditioner woes - sassparilla_kid - 07-15-2012 Ahhhhh shhhheeeeeeeyyyyyiiiittttttttttttttt. I checked the wiring diagrams in the back of my Haynes manual (couldn't find my Mercedes Air Conditioning fsm ) and determined I should check the connection at the compressor, and when I looked a stupid wire had pulled out of a shitty connector, so I fixed it all up and got the compressor to kick on!!! Unfortunately the system is pretty much empty, and I don't have anything to fill it with, and Napa is closed so I guess I have to wait until tomorrow to go buy some Duracool and then hopefully I will have air conditioning again. Last week it was 109*F here and it was no fun working with 90 acres of sprinklers, and then having to drive home in the same heat. RE: Air conditioner woes - larsalan - 07-16-2012 I would say just man up. That a/c is sapping power from you and that compressor and shit weighs a ton. I took mine off and it really looks nicer in the engine bay. And I still have 4 windows, sunroof, and a jug of water. Hear hear RE: Air conditioner woes - sassparilla_kid - 07-16-2012 (06-20-2012, 10:53 PM)sassparilla_kid No idea, I guess I could probably look in my a/c factory shop manual to figure out more about what's goin on lol I did that for a while, actually, like 3 or 4 years, until last summer, and then since last fall after it stopped working again. All I have to say is, do you work on a farm, and does it get 109*F there regularly? Cold air is the shit, no question about it. Besides, just tune your car up to make up for that power lost by turning the compressor, or just don't turn it on until you get up to speed and you won't even notice it. Nothing like driving home covered in shit and being sweaty RE: Air conditioner woes - sassparilla_kid - 07-17-2012 (07-16-2012, 10:30 PM)larsalan well, if it gets hot enough they start shedding clothes I have never had that happen. Please, tell me the secret to whatever it is you're doing to get these results lol RE: Air conditioner woes - larsalan - 07-17-2012 Just add vodka RE: Air conditioner woes - sassparilla_kid - 07-17-2012 (07-17-2012, 08:37 PM)larsalan Just add vodka Okay, I will try this as soon as possible, and report back with the results. hahaa |
