Made a few short, 5 to 10 mile, trips in my 86 300SDL the other day everything fine. Got in to drive to the beach and no go. The car will not move or attempt to in forward or reverse. Fluid and linkage are fine. My first thought is the pump has gone south. Only cracked open and worked on Ford automatics in the past but never had a pump go out or tranny fail without some warning first. Anything to check before I pull the tranny and venture into unknown territory? Long story short unloaded the Benz loaded the dually and headed to the water.

I check the fluid on a regular basis. It was down less than a pint when this problem arose so i don't see why ther would not be fluid in the converter. When the car is in gear you can tach it to about 2500 and it will attempt to move but does not seem to be in a strain. It is more like a nudge than trying to move forward or backward.
