This is a new problem that appeared with no warning, drove perfect one day and then the next day, refused to downshift.

It’s in my ‘92 Dodge Dakota AWD Truck, an OM617 & 722.x Automatic from an ‘83 or ‘84 300D. Been driving her for about 2 years now and it was functioning perfectly (though the truck would Torque Steer and burn all 4 tires if I got too happy with the throttle.) Always Upshifted and Downshifted normally (a little harsh on the upshifts & downshifts but nothing terrible.

With the No Downshift/Kickdown problem, it has Rapid Upshifts to go with it (all 4 gears before the truck even reaches 15mph).

Fluid is clean, no water, no burning or sludge either (I run an external cooler with a thermostatic fan), did a filter and fluid change 7 months ago. Transmission averages a temperature of 165 degrees (truck has a Trans Temp Gauge in addition to a Pyrometer and Boost Gauge). Transmission isn’t slipping.

It will downshift to 1st gear when I come to a complete stop but will not downshift based on throttle position while moving. I can manually downshift.

My first thought was the kickdown / bowden Cable had broken, but it’s okay. Tried adjusting the tension on the cable but it has no effect on the rapid upshifts or lack of downshifts. I’m lost here. Any ideas guys? She’s currently my only truck.
