anyone know the differences between these two ?
NA35X = OM603.97x (3.5L)
NA36X = OM603.96x (3.0L)

are the pre chambers the same ?
also mention of some head version issues here..

Bore, stroke, crankshaft, rods, prechambers, injectors and IP governor tuning.

All OM601/2/3 engines from 1989 got the angled injector upgrade. Older engines can be converted to the new prechambers and the cylinder heads are interchangeable but the angled injectors use a different thread pitch to screw into the prechamber collar. The angle increases air swirl and improves air/fuel mixture.

so the injector sits in the pre-chamber at an angle?
or the entire head is different ? (injector/pre-chamber seat is cast at angle)

The prechamber. The 3.5L engine's head is different, only in that they use the much better 20 or 22 casting instead of the weak 14/17/18 casts. It will bolt to a 3.0L block without any modifications that I'm aware of. I know several people have done a 3.0 retrofit to a rod-bent W140 using the 3.5L's head.
