12-17-2018, 11:13 AM #48That explains the confusion I started having. Since I was able to try TC's for a small cost, I decided I was going to take the trial-and-error approach. I started with a 1600 (I think), then tried a 1300, and finally a 2200. Well something wasn't quite making sense based on how each felt. As it turns out though, while trying different TC's I was also tweaking turbo and fueling, finally ending up going from mechanical IP to the EDC/DSL1 combo which gave significant improvement. When I switched to EDC, I still had the 1300 stall which all of a sudden did not feel as bad/low. Then since the shop finally had the 2200 ready I tried it and didn't like it. That 2200 could have felt better with my mechanical pump. Yes, the 2200 and DSL1 allow the GT23V to spool quite fast, although 2200 is still a bit high for my 4000 lb truck. I think the 1600 will be just perfect or close to. So my TC trial-and-error was biased by concurrent fueling/boost mods. Sorry if I confused anyone in the process. In conclusion, it seems like for anyone doing 606 swaps and the like, in lieu of very sophisticated engineering, the second best option for selecting a TC is trial and error since everyone's set up (including boost, fueling, gears, tires, etc) is unique. It also seems like selecting a TC may result in a waste of time and money if tuning is yet to be done.
