with the exception of never being able to find parts, it actually sounds pretty good. Might be a deal.

Definitely the most interesting ad i've read in a while, but does it start, run, drive, or stop?

Hey i just found a 504 diesel wagon for sale.
I might be interested in actually buying it, does anyone know a good online resource for info on these engines/cars??

The wagon looks sweet, really nice lines, some beautiful headlights.
I belive it has a 4cyl 2112cc engine rated at 65bhp and a 4speed stick.

What do you guys think, is it worth buying?

I've owned several Peugeot cars over the years, all diesel powered. A 82 505TD 5 speed, and 86 505TD auto (4 speed), a 84 604 TD auto and a 79 504D 4 speed. The early 505 was a 2.3 as was the 504, the 86 had the XD3T 2.5L and I transplanted the same engine into the 604. The 504 had a bad 2.3 XD2 engine and was slated for a XD2T turbo engine swap and change to the 5 speed gearbox and rear pumpkin from a 505TD but it never got done and I scrapped it last year. The carcass was great, it was from Texas originally and the undercarriage was immaculate...now I'm sorry I let it go.

These engines are robust but finicky, cooling systems must be in very good working order, many a Peugeot has had a cracked head. I think the 2.1 was the XD90 engine and may have used an odd injector setup, can't remember exactly.

Parts can be difficult to source, but filters and general maint items are not too bad. Some cars used the oil bath air cleaner which just requires cleaning which is nice and overall the systems aren't too complicated. Early IP's are CAV/Rotodiesel, later were Bosch but could be interchanged also, simple cast block aluminum head engines.

The 504 isn't good for freeway driving, it works the engine far too hard, the gearing isn't conducive to 75mph, but they are more than adequate for 55 and putting around town.

As for used parts there's a guy on the east coast that I bought some things from and a few from a friend in Canada who maintained a fleet of Peugeots for rental purposes. I also had a friend in France send me things from ebay.fr when I saw stuff I wanted, bought them and had them shipped directly to him and he would package and send them on to me.

Peugeot pulled out after 1992, diesel discontinued (thanks GM) after 1986. The best model we never got was the 505 GTD intercooled turbo diesel 2.5 4cyl that generated 115hp. There's a vid on utube of one in Poland being mistreated by some kids doing burnouts with it. These cars were odd but cushy to ride in and the seats were supper comfy. I've heard that the BA10/4 4 speed shifted oddly, the BA10/5 speed was much better. My 82 505TD was able to pull about 40mpg consistently and better than that sometimes.
