Got fed up off the crappy jap engine in my l200 truck exploding. So I'm putting the 605 in. Got a pump  ordered from Sweden and I'm hoping for just over 300hp from it. Can't decide on what turbo yet. Want a quick spooling one for low down power for towing and off-roading. Any suggestions??  I've just about finished the adapter  plate as its goin on to a manual box. Then it's off for a custom flywheel and clutch to mate it all together.  Goin to be a daily driver 2 so should be fun. Any oNe know where I can get a 605 engine manual from?? Il get some pics up when I can figure out how. It says there 2 big to attach.

Glow plugs drilled out and pulled out today after they all snapped off. New ones finally in. Water pump drilled out and threaded for extra cooling pipe to the back of the block.
Turbos off being bored out and a bigger compressor wheel in.
Just waiting on the flywheel now. Just need more time to crack on with it.

Oh yeah those jap diesels are proper junk. It's like they're not even trying. Toyota, Mitsubishi, Nissan, all of them have horrible underpowered unreliable inefficient pieces of junk for diesels. Only exception I know of for Toyota is a Land Cruiser that came with an engine built by Yanmar, so the only Toyota diesel that works isn't actually by Toyota. And get this, my korean truck with a 30 year old Mercedes designed engine gets far better fuel mileage than Toyota diesel trucks made in this century.
You won't regret doing that swap!

I've got a 2002 Isuzu 4HE1 which has been incredibly reliable in the 6 years I have run a business requiring it.  And underpowered. And inefficient.  Kinda what you'd expect from a 1980s japanese gas motor.

Why do I never see Jap auto diesels putting out the power MB diesels can? I hate to call them crap but TD42s and 1HD-T etc never ever get up to 500+...ok they're larger engines so can't rev as high but won't the extra torque make up for it like a 6BT etc. RD28T, 4D56T even seem to break stuff on stock power

Got the engine running today. Just a quick test to see if it runs ok before the final install. I've not heard it run yet. Just wanted to make sure all cylinders were firing ok with the new pump. No coolant in so only a 10sec run.

I've got the standard 605 turbo on at the mo. It's Been rebuilt and had a bigger comp wheel put in. Put the same turbine wheel in to keep the fast spool. It's at about 24psi at the mo. Il run this set up for a bit then I might change to a hx30 or 35. I could just do with fast spool as I want low down torque for 4x4.

ive got the standard turbo in my 605. But rebuilt with a t28 wheel. It's giving me nice spool up and I've capped it at 25psi. But it's running out at higher revs. Im thinking of a compound setup with the my current turbo and a hx35. Im worried a hx35 alone will give me a slow spool up. But put with my turbo now should give great spool and give good flow top end. The truck moves very well as it is but I want a bit more. And it's smoking top end so obviously needs more air. Any thoughts on this combo

Never driven an L200 but bet it's an improvement! Looking at a compound 606 setup in a Defender engine bay, seems compound setups are pretty rare in the UK.

There's one with a turbo and supercharger on it. But that's in a disco. There's not many good conversions around. I knows kid who's put a 606 in his l200. But he had to chop a lot away at the front to fit it in. He's only running standard turbo tho.

Going to finish off the turbo manifold over the next couple of weeks and want to get peoples thoughts on wastegates. Do I want an internal or external. What are the pros and cons of each. I going to run a hybrid turbo. It’s a hx35 compressor wheel and housing mated with a Garret .48AR turbine housing. I’m trying not to get too much lag. Just after any opinions or feedback of what other people have. Good or bad. Whilst I’m welding it all up it would be easier to know to go external or not.
