Ha!  A vacuum based control system was made and seemed to work great.

What turbo are you running?

I have been looking at a GT2556V because it can set when it starts to spool, but it needs a oil pressure regulator so the seals don't blow out.

I have the stock turbo now, but want to change that.  This thread is asking if someone wants to design and sell me a controller and turbo set up for the 617

What I ended up on my 616 set up with a GT2056V was setting the vanes so I get the spool that I wanted and then used the boost pressure to open them up and limit the boost pressure. I want quick spool, about 7 to 10 lbs of boost on the highway, and max 20 to 25 lbs of boost, and that set up did it. No complicated controllers.

For my 617a I am considering a GT2556V or GT2560V with the same set up. At the same time the HE221 looks interesting, it is simple, and can handle the oil pressure. But, i can not adjust when it spools.. If it came in a twin scroll I could make a butterfly valve to speed it up, but then again, at that point it is just as complex as the Garret.

Making or getting a pressure actuator that will pull the vanes back is not a big deal. Regulating the oil pressure for a garret is a little more complicated.. An orifice small enough to limit the pressure when hot may not allow enough oil during warm up when it is -10F out.. I blew the seals on my 2056.

Remember, if you want something done right, .... lol
