I have a factory re manufactured OM603.97 (placarded 3.5) in great shape. I also have a few OM603.96. I'm trying to decide which to use. The 3.5 has no wear, all the 3.0s will need reconditioning. What is the general opinion on these placarded 3.5s, were ALL the issues sorted out, will they take slightly more fuel/boost like a 3.0 will? Or for peace of mind is it better to stick with the proven 3.0? Both have 22 heads so that part of it is not an issue. Thanks for any first hand experience/input. Will this engine handle a 6mm injector pump and slightly more boost to make around 180hp?

Could someone verify the material the rings are made of in these engines? Is it chrome?

i am mostly sure the 60X motors are plasma deposited moly on the top rig with a ductile second and chromed oil ring. same as the 61X motors.

85 300D om617: 8mm M pump 175cc 5200rpm, holset he221w @ 30psi, large A2W ic, compounds on the way.
