I have just deleted the the EGR Valve on my W202 C250TD and will be re routing the intake pipework straight up from the intercooler into the manifold.
It looks like I need to bring an air sensor across to the pipework. Can I just buy a generic air sensor and hook it up or does the existing sensor need to be used?

The existing sensor needs to be used, or one with a similar transfer function.
I believe the transfer function of it is similar or identical to the Bosch units used in many other applications so you should be able to find one that uses a 14mm thread instead of a clip type fitting.

I have had a look around and I cannot find any Bosch sensors with a thread. I have found a few Cambiare sensors that look like they work in the same way but they don't look anything like my one

Yup, I was referring to that sensor. Many of the other guys simply let it hang loose somewhere out of the way - with no ill effects either.

Ok I thought that might be the case. Ill give it a go.

I will eventually fit it properly though. I'm not keen on a sensors and wires hanging in the engine bag doing nothing.

Ok I thought that might be the case. Ill give it a go.

Mine has been running with it unplugged for the last 12 months, not caused me any issues

That's good. What does it actually do then? If unplugging it doesn't cause any problems, why is it there?
