So I want to get back into the MB diesel scene.

Always wanted a 115 so I found a local guy selling a 71 220D

What I know so far

Bad
*needs clutch cylinder work (both need to be replaced)
*Probably needs all new brakes (calipers, pads and rotors)
*slow af
*Not orignal paint (certain areas are chipping - maaco job most likley)
*needs new key ignition - owner son broke wrong key in there
*accelerator pedal linkage is seized
*I noticed the Oil Cooler lines are not hooked up

Good
*Interior is in good shape
*No Rust
*Starts right up and idles somewhat smoothly (probably needs injector service and valve adjustment)
*euro spec (minus headlight)
*Original 53K Kilometers (so..like 33K miles on it)

I got the guy down to 1.3K but told I need to sleep on it before I commit since old cars are old cars after all.

here are some pictures for you to help me decide

If it's truly rust free I'd say it's a great deal for $1300. Go for it

1984 300D 4-speed ~200,000 miles
7.5mm M-pump, GT3582 turbo, F-Tune Performance intake/exhaust manifolds, A/A intercooler, 315 nozzles, Enlarged prechambers, Bosch 044 feed pump, Custom lightweight flywheel with 240mm clutch, Lowered, 17" AMG rims - 300 hp OM617 project
1985 300D 280,000 miles RIP
2001 F350 7.3 DP tuner, 4"exhaust, S&B intake

so far form what ive seen, its promising. Didnt get a good look in the middle of the vehicle underneath.

Its been sitting in a garage for 20 years, so cant be all that terrible.

Anyway, contacted the owner. Waiting to hear back. Should have it home by friday if everything goes well.

Now to decide if im dropping in a beefier engine or not?

1,300 for an actually rust free chassis is a steal, even if the rest is shit.

Just don't think it's going to be your DD and you will have fun with it.

larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?

Thats why ive got my old 328i as a daily.

Dont think I could ever drive these things daily anymore after dealing with the 240D. Granted I am now making three times as much as i was when I was in school, so Ill actually be able to afford repairs and a project like this now.

The trick is to have two, and then have a buddy with spare cars, and then have an old motorcycle as a last ditch. Or live on a bus route Tongue

Get it, turbo it, and make it look like Marylng manson's lincoln.
