OM617 Intake Modification for IC
Hi-

I want to modify a OM617 intake so that it would be easier/better routing for an intercooler setup.

The engine is in a Land Rover 110.  The 110 runs a factory radiator and IC in the front shroud.  IC is on the left side (US driver side).

I am planning on buying a used OM617 intake manifold and modifying it by cutting the turbo and EGR area and welding in a new coupler angled more toward the front but depending on how things layout.

I found this one while looking for IC routing pieces: http://www.mandrelbends.com/transitions-...upler.html

If anyone has any input I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

RE: OM617 Intake Modification for IC
my recommendation would be to look into any one of the various N/A intakes as they tend to be better flowing and easier to set up for inter-coolers. the best of course would be the 115 manifold but they are hard to find and expensive. baring that you may be able to fit a later N/A manifold as the 110 should have ample engine bay room. finally if you really want to keep the turbo manifold i would recomend welding on a v-band flange to the front of the manifold to make assembly and removal easier then just use silicone and pipe sections to plumb the rest.

I have an extra W115 longrunner intake (MB part number 617 141 02 01) that I can part with.
Send me a PM.

Thanks - there was one a N/A intake on ebay recently that I just missed. The 110 does have a lot of room so most anything should fit.

Could call on the V-band flange. I used them for the exhaust i built and they work really well.

While the manifold is off it might be worth while to do a port and polish job for better flow. I haven't ever done it myself but it looks pretty easy if you have the time.

If you use a intake from a federal US car from California the intake port from the turbo is higher an will clear a non federal exhaust manifold turbo mount so you can plumb the intercooler. There is one on E-bay right now 1985 # 282141429295

I'll take a look and see but most likely won't be doing it. Like you said "if you have the time" which I do not have. I just want to get the exhaust with EGT probe, HX30 and intake with IC plumbing done and drive this thing!

I cannot seem to post pictures but here is a thread of my build: http://www.defendersource.com/forum/show...hp?t=47478

And here is a thread with pictures of my OM617 install: http://www.defendersource.com/forum/show...hp?t=42132

Love the Land Rover Defender. I started with an NAS 3.9V8 years ago but sold that to build this 110.

Thanks for the info! Looks like a feasible option.

I am actually going to buy an intake from Alec (thanks!) as the routing seems like it would work best with hood clearance. I found an old thread on one of the Mercedes forums saying that the long runners of the W115 NA intake actually help a little in low end torque so that could be interesting if true.
