I followed the instructions precisely how to torque head bolts. 15 nm 25nm 35nm 90degrees 10 min 90 degrees. Some just felt like they took more oomph at the final 90 degrees and other didn't feel quite as tight giving that distinct "stretch" feedback. I even  marked bolt heads with white paint as a reference point for the final 180 degrees. Should I give it one more final run through the sequence giving the ones not as tight a few more degrees. Has anyone experienced this? Just want to make sure thank you again.

It is difficult to say... but I think, that is exactly the reason that the specifications works with degrees instead of Nm. Because If you would use the torque wrench for the last steps, you for sure would have different stretches.

But I am not sure, let's hear other opinions Smile

Did u cleaned the wells ? I did not once and the result was that. About that specs if i remember i use to 30 nm 90 and 10 min after another 90. Never heard of 180 final...

If the bolts and bolt holes were cleaned properly and you're absolutely positive you followed the sequence correctly you shouldn't have any problems, just leave it be. If you have any doubts at all you should re-torque them. You have a few options: 1) measure bolt stretch and re-use bolts or 2) spring for all new bolts(most foolproof). I only replaced head bolts on engine/head gasket jobs where the engine was overheated. Make sure the bolt holes are sparkling clean when the bolts go back in. I always blew them out with compressed air, sprayed liberally with brake cleaner, & blew out with compressed air again. I also applied a light coat of WD-40 to the threads and under the bolt head where it contacts the head so there was less friction when being tightened. Just having to do 90deg turns isn't a big deal but it may be wise to buy/rent/borrow an angle gauge to be completely sure. In extreme cases I also had printed instructions on the fender and/or numbered the bolt heads to eliminate any confusion, it also made the job a tad quicker. Good luck

I know that people often do that, but be careful. If the tightening torque is specified WITH friction, you will easily overtighten the bolts.

Lubrication is important, and specified for this engine. Also important is completely clearing out the threads in the block. Just a little debris or liquid can cause problems.
