Hi all I have a Nissan td42 4.2l 6cylinder non turbo and it is slower than slow. I need some boost to make it move I’m lookng for early spool and a long rev range. Power wise I am only running a 10mm fuel pump so at max I will see 140hp at the wheels for now. In future I will upgrade to a 12mm pump and around 200hp at the wheels I know it’s not much but these Nissan cranks snap very easy.

turbo tuners here in Australia favour the td05 18g 6cm ,the garret 2863and 3071 but they are expensive. I have been searching posts for a few weeks and I think the Holset hx30 super would be a good match. I’m only looking to run 15-20psi boost and an inter cooler. The Holset seems cheap reliable and the weapon of choice for the 4bt owners

What do you guys think any suggestions

The td05 and 2863 might spool a bit faster / have better response because they have smaller turbine wheels, but they and the HX30 flow about the same on the compressor side. It probably wouldn't be enough of a difference to be worth spending the extra money

the HE221W and the HX30 flow similar amounts while the 221 has a much wider map and spools quite quickly. the only issue is the 221 tends to be harder to find and more expensive. may still be cheaper than a new garrett. Eurotrashmotorsports has them in stock usually.

85 300D om617: 8mm M pump 175cc 5200rpm, holset he221w @ 30psi, large A2W ic, compounds on the way.

Alcaid is your guy for factory direct Holsets of any variety pretty much shipped direct to your door.

Eurotrash seem to be able to get the he200vg, which would be a cool turbo to have for variable geometry or on a compound setup a la erx .

I'm not sure Alcaid is around anymore. Hopefully he is, but have not heard from him in a while. You might just have to wait a bit to hear from him, or try to track him down on another forum
