Long time coming, reached 425k miles on the OM606 NA, finally got the turbo block in and beginning the swap.

Researching driveline solutions, I would like to go 5 speed, 6 speed manual would be even better.

From what I've found so far mercedes options aren't the strongest? Is the clutch the only weak part?

Consequently I've been looking at a BMW box with an adapter plate - I wouldn't mind a MErcedes option that bolts up however.

I want the car to be streetable without too much turbo lag. I was thinking an 8mm pump, but realistically it may not be the best for my scenario. I am in Southern California and do a lot of freeway driving - so maybe it wouldn't be an issue but I'm actually leaning towards a 7.5mm pump.

Compound turbos seem like a good option to cut black smoke and lag, but I've not ruled out a good tuned single.

Now I'm looking for the best option for a transmision

Are you planning over 600hp? If not then you definitely don't need 8mm. Dieselmeken can tune your RS203 pump from 606 na to 190cc with 7.5mm elements which means over 700hp. Even HX52 couldn't handle this. You can look for transmission after you have decided how far you go with hp.

That's sound advice. I just read your build thread, very cool and informative. 183mph???? That's impressive, congrats.

I'll take a lesson from you and go for a 7.5mm pump, aiming for over 600 horse.

I have a bmw box re welded for an OM606 with clutch flywheel and pressure plate up in norcal for sale. I ended up deciding to go automatic in the end. I also have a BMW diff w/ factory LSD if you want to upgrade that too.

Hey Mr_Robs, thanks for that - and sorry for delay in response. Your build thread is awesome!

erx - thanks for your advise so far!

*Update*
I got a 716.xxx 6 speed gearbox from a w203 and a sprinter single mass flywheel kit. There's someone running 500bhp to the wheels from a om606 powered w124 with a Mercedes gear box - I also really wanted to keep the driveline Mercedes. A cherry on top would be to relocate the parking brake to a hand brake.

Anyone know if the transmission cross member from the e400/r129 will bolt to an e300d chassis? The 6 speed box I'm swapping in uses the same mount. I'll likely weld and modify the existing cross member. The e400 option does appear more rigid.

To deal with the turbo block sump clearance issue on the w124 chassis I was planning on swapping in an R129 bar as I've found they fit. Another option is to install the sump pan from the 95 na on the turbo motor. I'd prefer to keep the turbo sump as it doesn't have the extra oil cooler off to the side of the sump, which also means less gaskets down there to worry about.
