hey...

anyone did a similar project?
so my om605 has damaged sleeves and pistons and i don't want to throw it. Want to do a project and make 605 block, with 2.9l crackshaft... So i was wondering if that goes with some machining?

om605 block
om605 4 valve head
om602 2.9l crankshaft
om602 2.9l rods
om604 pistons

om605 bore is 87mm and om604 has 89mm

two questions- what is the process of getting rods and pistons together because of different diameter of their pins?
- what headgasket to use?

is not reasonably to do that...
The cylinder well is not deep enough to acomodate the piston skirt when in BDC.
The 604 D22 pistons don´t have the channel for oil cooling , but that is not the main problem, the wrist pin has to be cut from 26mm to 28, or by installation of a wider(narrow) bushing in the rod, then u have piston protrusion problems 1mm problem, wich deepens the cylinder well problem and the block may have to be decked that 1mm .
Then the head gasket... a custom made gasket is needed... or modification on the cylinder head, and block to acomodate the 602.98X gasket.
Better buy a complete block , or engine .... a good one hehe

So these are the same problems found when using 3.5L 603 crank with 606, right?
If one is re-lining the bore already, couldn't the new sleeves extend deeper to accommodate the 604 piston skirts?

yes and no, 605/6 are not sleeved, the blocks can be sleeved for repair.... nevertheless the problem still persists , i belive the skirts are of the same size.... i don´t know but i guess cause is about 6mm diference....

Why should anyone make such a complicated hybrid instead of using bombproof stock unopened om605 which is making reliable 500hp?

2.9td has the same rods as "rod bender" 3.5td. Why nobody is building superturbo from 2.9 or 3.5 is because they're crap compared to 605-606td's, rods are the weakest points. I belive it will work with reasonable power but it will not handle near the same power as stock 605-606td.

Why is 2.9td/3.5td a rod bender , and a 2.5 or 3.0 is not? just by looking at the rods of one and the other i can tell u that is most probably that a 605.91X /606.91X bends a rod when superturboed that any 602.98X or the 603.97X wich is the ones that can be used.
And if it anyone is suspicious with the so called rod benders 2.9 and 3.5 , why don´t istall 2.5td stock rods the ones market in purple.
just need to deck the block 2mm or so , nothing special.
But i maybe wrong , like i´ve been many times ....
I suspect that the 602.97X IDI engine found in some sprinters the equivalent to the sangyoung OM662, was assembled with the 601D22 internals which are from a N/A engine and they are just week , but this is what i suspect...

so what is your oppinion what to do with that block to get it runnning, really this is not a one week build.
if i use setup that is mentioned on first post, is there any other piston that i can use? Cylinder well must go to machining, because it cant work with 605 pistons... what pistons can i use?

Have u tried .5 repair pistons? Means that the bore can be honed by .25mm from original which is alot of material to be removed.
Otherwise u can stick with the botom u have, instal 89mm pistons from 604, then u end with a 2.65 cc engine .
I sell u a block . No scratch . 100 € as is, 250 honed ready to go.
Regard

Mr erx later on i'll post 2 rods asside .605 and the crap rod 602.98X . So that we can take a look at diff between them.

U mean 50hp each? Of course they will... we re talking about a IDI engine!!!
Have them balanced with the crank , make sure the oil jet hit the crwn and thats it.
Remember there is no gaskets for 4 valve 89mm ...
