I'm having a battle with my oil cooler pipes on the OM606. I brought it to my local hydraulic specialist who against my better judgement cut off the original mercedes pipes (that weren't leaking), and crimped on ¾" hydraulic hose, that now leaks out of the bottom hose constantly.

I've been back 4 times to try and have the problem solved and there seems to be no solution other than his suggestion that I bring in another set of mercedes pipes and we adapt to suit with new fittings (my face was not pleased with this solution!)

I suggested using ⅝" hose, but was told that it won't fit over the 606 engine fittings.

At start up I'm getting around 70psi of pressure that drops gradually to around 15psi when warm, so I'm not sure if hose clips will work.

I'm wondering what other people have done at the engine end, or if I'm just going to have to find another set of pipes to have adapted.

Good quality clamps hold well. Oil pump is rated at 8 bar (relief valve) use 20 bar hyd / fuel hose .

I cut the end off and silver solder a male  - 12 A/N fitting on. then you can crimp what ever -12 A/N female fitting you want to use with the 3/4" inch hose. I should have a pic in the engine section.

I cut the end off and silver solder a male  - 12 A/N fitting on. then you can crimp what ever -12 A/N female fitting you want to use with the 3/4" inch hose. I should have a pic in the engine section.

Is 12 A/N equivalent to ¾"? I've tried to get my head around the A/N stuff and its not too logical.

Yes, 12 AN is 3/4". Those AN sizes are specified in sixteenths of an inch.

I put an aftermarket Derale oil cooler on mine and am planning on barbed fittings with double hose clamps. Will see .

That makes sense now... I don't even need to get A/N fittings, I can just get some male BSP fittings (easily found here, A/N would be more expensive and harder to find) and braze/silver solder them on.

I think thats the way to go. I'll speak to the new hydraulics guy tomorrow and see what he has.

I have never been a fan of clamps on a oil hose, they always leak at some point. Loosing a engine because of a oil hose coming loose is not worth saving a few dollars, do it right the first time. But if one must use them instead of crimping, use Norma clamps from Germany so they don't tear the hose when you tighten them.

The engine side fittings are steel so they can be silver soldered.

Whenever I use worm gear clamps I double wrap the hose with friction tape to avoids tearing into it. T-bolt clamps are the best and I always use them if possible. Crimping is the best of course.
