Hi

This engine is in a Gwagen, and it was turbo-ed years ago. I have rebuilt the engine, but unfortunately the turbo is leaking internally.

Before rebuilding the turbo, I want to hear the opinions of Others on whether this turbo is OK for this engine? I realize that there is also the question of what impeller is in there (trim?), but as I will be looking at replacing the impeller/shaft anyway, I would like to know if this is a feasible choice. I never got to drive the car, so have no idea if the original installation worked well or not.

The reason I ask is that the factory OM617A uses a larger T3 - size.

Thanks
Adrian

If anything, you want bigger...

I went small for my NA>turbo conversion and changed my mind - small turbine means high EMP and EGT which will stress the engine more.

Edit: I'll just add, I see no point sticking with 40 year old turbo designs, if that's what you've got. Get something more modern if you can.

Yes, good point. I am investigating a few options here. This installation set the turbo towards the rear of the engine, where its heat has affected the steering column in the past...

Thanks for the responses.
