Hey guys, I'm in the DMV (DC Maryland Virginia) area and I'm going to start with my project 603 soon. I was just wondering if any of you knew of a diesel mechanic that's willing to work on old mercs in the DMV area.

I usually order maintenance parts/tools from Mercedessource all the way up in Washington State, but that's obviously all the way across the country, which isn't too convenient. Anyone heard of them?

Anyway, I figured the best bet I have is to take it to a shop that specializes in Mercedes and is also a Bosch certified repair center, because that's all I can find so far.

Please help!  Huh Big Grin

Check out DieselPro in Glen Rock, Pa. I take my daily drivers there for diesel specific stuff that I don't want or have time to do. They're not purists so you won't get hissed at for suggesting performance mods.

Cool, I'll give them a call. A bit out of my way since I am nearer to DC, but so far I'm not sure if I have anything better.

Anybody else have any suggestions?

Not mercedes related, but their is Maryland diesel performance. They are a big name, and could probably help you out. But most likely they know nothing about the Mercedes itself.

That's a bit closer to me so it would be more convenient.

It doesn't have to be a Mercedes specialized diesel shop, those are probably very rare (if they even exist). They just need to know what they're doing. Maryland Diesel Performance could probably help me with making custom exhaust and intake manifolds, considering I have a holset turbo. Thanks for the suggestion

If you're just looking for maintenance look for Potomac Classic Autoworks in Potomac, MD. Rob's a great guy but mostly works repairs on 70s-80s MBs. I think he's moved most of his operations to a shop in Rockville.

Also check out Star Car Auto Service in Rockville. Independent shop owned by a former MB dealer master tech who got caught working out of his house on the side. Really nice guy. He could probably provide you a few more contacts in the area.

I know there's supposed to be a master 603/606 tech up the road from me in Mt Airy, MD but I never got his contact info.

And for body work (if you ever need any) be sure to use Auto Collision Craftsman in the Airpark/Gaithersburg area. They were the Euromotorcars Germantown (dealer) body shop for decades until the dealer built their own internal body shop and cut them off. The main guy has been working on these since w123's were new and doesn't cut corners.

What are you doing to a 603? I'm curious as I'm dropping one in my w123 wagon.

Thanks, this helps a lot. Good to know there are some specialists in my area

I'm planning on putting in a Herlevi pump with 8mm elements and an HX40. Since it's the 3.5 and not the 3.0 I plan to keep the revs down and build it for low end torque instead of ridiculously high RPM and lots of power. I plan to put in a 716.6xx but I wouldn't be doing that either, so it'd help if these guys you suggested could do a manual transmission swap.

I called Doug from Star Car Auto service. Says he'd be happy to help me but he's so backed up with customers doing just maintenance that he has no time for projects. He lives in Mt. Airy and said he would call me with some contacts he has up there, I believe he mentioned something about that 603/606 specialist.

Thanks for the help, I'll call Potomac Classic Auto works too
