hey guys, so if you seen my project page, i am going to swap a om605 or om606 in to a 245.
im looking forr info on the engines, and well, i think i am at the right place  Angel

im in doubt about what engine to choose. should i go for a om605 or a om606...

im in favour of a om605, because it is a 5 cylinder (in love with 5 cilinder engines Heart )
but i can imagine, for the 400 hp im aiming at the extra cylinder could come in handy.

i saw some posts about the om606 fitting in the bay of a 240 with a 30mm spacer, is this true?
and does the om605 have the same engine mount positions as the om606?

also, what is the best turbo for daily use? in Holland, the hx40 is available, but it isnt a problem to get it from overseas or so.
saw some posts about variable vane turbos on these engines, which one is doable for not to much money (in the same league as the hx40)

also, i dont want to smoke to much when driving normal, so could i install a soot particle filter in the exhaust? and install a cutout valve  if i floor it?

If you want 400 hp, go with a an OM606 if you can fit in your car. Much smoother and more capable if you want more HP down the road. Check availability in your area too. In the states we use the OM606.961 since they were offered in the w210. I'm sure the om648 will gain popularity when tuners figure out the common rail aftermarket tuning. Europe has so many options that I may have to move!

well, it will fit (HUGE engine compartiment) and is plenty avaible in europe. the om648 is to new for my build.

if it was me id be putting an om606 into the 245 not just cause you get 20% extra everything before modding.
But the lowest part of the sump is moved forward a good bit leaving you with plenty of space for your subframe and steering rack
The om605 might lead you into problems with trimming the sump or front subframe to get it to clear.

If you don't like smoke, you just need to have tight control over fuelling in relation to turbo boost pressure. This is an area where an electronic injection pump (EDC) excels.

yeah true, but the problem is that a mechanical pump i can do all of the work myself.
if it comes to chipping a pump i suck...

If you use an 8mm pump you can get a remap for for that pump and turbo.
I've a he351 and doesn't feel too laggy. Although I will be swapping to a billet wheel and 10 blade turbine wheels soon. But lots of people love the hx40

isnt 8mm overkill? and how difficult is it to tune the electric pump?
he351 is difficult to come by in Holland,and hx40 is stock turbo for a lot of small lorry's. (volvo, scania, daf)

6mm will see you at 300hp and on its limit with high egt at that.
8mm is perfect for 400hp and headroom for 500hp also.
Shorter injection duration.
Diesels are easy to tune no need for injection timing or control
Just fuelling based on boost.
The map i use has no smoke and spools the he351ve very well and revs till 6k.

There the EPROM chip that contain the map.
The ecu has two 8bit chips. You desolder these,
Solder in the sockets, then you can easily remove and insert new chips to give you new maps.
