W124 chassis...What is the inverted "U" shaped rubber/flaps thing on the underside of the tunnel, just above the flywheel/pressure plate in the pic? It passes through an oval-shaped hole in the center of the tunnel, and the "flaps" (drains? vents?) extend around either side of the transmission. Is this a drain for the evaporator? I have yet to find a forum-post specifically identifying that component, or find a replacement part. Mine is brittle and busted and I am in need of a replacement  Sad

Thank you for confirming that! Does anybody know whether a replacement is still available?

Get 'em at the junkyard cheap.

You don't really need them. They just keep the water off the top of the bellhousing and reduce the chance of critters crawling in.

W124 drains - my favourite subject! Big Grin

Those rubber penises are the drain for the blower compartment! The evaporator has it's own drains a bit behind on top the transmission tunnel, two spring reinforced foam-tubes, left & right. And if you look close - just behind the rubber dongs, where the panels join, there is an opening. This is the drain for the comparment where the brake booster, battery and ECUs etc. sit.

A/C evaporator drains (left & right):

ECU compartment drains and blower compartment drains:

^A/C drains not shown, car without A/C!!

And the drain behind the brake booster (not visible with booster installed):

Got enough drains? Big Grin

Thank you all!
And I'll keep an eye on those foam drain tubes... I've read they are a regular source of leaks.

It's morel like the two little drain openings on top the transmission tunnel get clogged (especially on series 1 cars where they are smaler) and then water may run through the plugs on top the transmission tunnel, inside the passenger compartment.

The foam tubes are very brittle, though. If you don't have too, don't touch them. MB Part number is A1408300196. About 10€/piece in Europe.
