Hey people,

I'm on the hunt for a w210 300TD for salvaging an OM606. Of course, most 210s have 300.000km and more. I know that mileage is not that important (at least I think I read that somewhere) and surely less is better...But is there like a "magical" limit or a maximum in kilometers traveled, that I shouldn't cross when buying a 606 for a STD project? There are plenty with 430-530000km around. And cheap, of course.

My 605 i bough had over 500,000 KM and had used WVO at some point. The lower end was in great shape, the bearings looked new and i was able to reuse the pistons. I did sleeve on cylinder that had some tapper in it. The head of of any engine with high millage will need some love no matter what someone tells you. At least valve seals and a "valve job" maybe valves.

Thats my $.02

a german 500 kilometer is a very good engine , specially if it has 15years or less. unfortunatly u shouldn´t buy to anyone , try to buy one from a old folk. a portuguese 500K is definitly not a good choice !!! french are good choices too.
as duncan said , heads always need some fixing, but this days u can buy a naked head for 150€ . what cost the Money is the gear in the head.
Cylinder cutting , yep when people use veg it does destroy the cylinders , but i belive even a 50 year old caterpillar can´t stand that treatment, in this case sometimes a .50 oversized piston can be the trick u can find them at 100€ each with rings in it , so basically rebuilding is kind off cheap.

Mine has 470k km, no oil consumption or other problems, runs fine with 3 bar. It depends on how it has been maintained, what oil used and how often changed, with good oil 500k is no problem.

Alright, I wanted to invest in some head-love anyways.
And I'm gonna look out for those who have not been tortured with veggie oil.

Thanks peeps! Much appreciated.

Mines currently on 257k miles and it still pulls strongly - although not upgraded the power much yet.

Have a look on UK sellers as UK w210/w202 usually have less than 200k (miles). If you can get through our borders... Tongue

Installed:

OM606/722.6, big IC, W220 brakes.
Planned:
DIY manifold, compound, 722.6 controller, built IP.
[i]Less rust..
