Hi guys, getting ready to install a 717.443 5 speed manual transmission into my 617A..

wondered if anybody have a measurement of the outer diameter/thinkness of the pilot bearing that is installed on the 617.952 engine?

will be doing this in the weekend, so hopefully get a bearing that fits the new shaft and crank..

hy there,
few things u need to know!!! is your .443 gearbox suitable for a 617engine? is it half face of a dualmass flywheel or single mass?
your curent gear shifter suitable for it ? reverse and 5th at the rear lever?
i´m not so expert in 617 engine but one thing i can say, they usually not share the same bolt patern as the 60Xand late 61X,
a gear box .4X3 usually belongs to a DMF , wich is not a problema that can´t be overcomed. if it is like that u dont need the abovementioned bearing. usually DMF have a shorter imput shaft.
about the gear shifter... well the shifters with reverse, aft right , may play the reverse at aft left as well , is something i´m not sure, just remembering.

then the .443 5spd transmission is paired with the 617a.

cut off the flange from the old gearbox and welded it on the new gearbox..
it was nice job, what took the most time was to make a jig to center the shaft. but with the equipment avaiable it was done within 1/100mm clearances.

new box, old box

jig with centered shaft

old boxs flange cut off, here you can see the machined piece to center the input-shaft to the transmission

welding the two pieces together.

shaft between the transmission and transfer case was 74mm to short, so had to machine a spacer with high tensile strenght bolts to get the correct distance.

regarding the pilot bearing, it was a 15mm end shaft as predicted on both transmissions.
